Revised Title: Dialogue with Taiyen Design: The Most Beautiful Tangible Objects in the World Come from Nature
讀後心得
Taiyan Design was founded by Gao Shijie, who insists on treating each piece with an extreme attitude. Starting from an architectural perspective and combining multiple factors, they provide customized designs. The team believes that design should authentically reflect the brand spirit and the personality of the homeowner, which gives life to the design. Gao Shijie has loved spatial design since childhood and ultimately chose to study interior design at Chung Yuan Christian University. His design philosophy is to follow nature, as he believes nature is the source of inspiration and aims to guide homeowners to find their true needs. Representative works include the Taiyan Office and the Hidden Art Retreat. Inspired by K. S. Cheng and the film "Interstellar," he underwent self-reflection in 2023-2024 and plans to explore a more localized and sustainable design direction in the future.

Founded by Gao Shijie, Taiyan Design has consistently maintained an attitude of extreme refinement towards every piece of work, starting from an architectural perspective and integrating needs, environment, culture, aesthetics, budget, and future potential to create rational and customized designs. The team believes that meeting clients' needs is merely the basics; only with a smoothly tranquil surface that faithfully reflects the brand spirit or the personality and lifestyle of the homeowner can the design be given life.

Residential project 'Breath of the Wilderness'

How did you become an interior designer? What experiences did you have before becoming an interior designer? I have been full of ideas about architecture and space since childhood. When filling out my vocational card, I followed my father's advice and filled it with nearly all business-related fields while inserting a few design-related departments, which unexpectedly led me to the interior design department at Chung Yuan Christian University. After graduation, I was invited to China to assist my father in managing his business, but I could not let go of my love for design, so I took the opportunity of my grandfather's passing to return to Taiwan, escape my father's business, and focus on working in the design field.

What is your design philosophy? How has this philosophy changed throughout your design career? I take nature as my teacher because it harbors endless sources of inspiration. Most problems can find answers in nature, whether it is in form, color, light and shadow, or the relationships between all things. For me, natural design is random and unpredictable, yet harmoniously cyclical. Therefore, I usually guide clients from a bystander's perspective to clarify their true needs and inner desires, then integrate and fine-tune the direction, ultimately forming the most appropriate relationship and appearance naturally.

Residential project 'Entering the Mountains'

If I had to mention one of your representative works, what would it be? The office of Taiyan. The projects I am most proud of this year are Hidden Art Residence, Entering the Mountains, and Bamboo Inscription. As an interior designer, describe yourself in three words: reserved, low-key, and pursuit of perfection.

What book, movie, or music has inspired your creative inspiration? Ke Xi Jie’s "The Vision of the Heart" and Nolan’s "Interstellar". Only the mind can break the boundaries of space and time, which reflects my emphasis on the feeling of being in the center of a space.

What does 2023-2024 mean to you? This year, I have undergone fundamental reflection, examining the directions of the past, present, and future, whether in company operations or in attitudes towards life, family, and design.

What new design or development directions do you have for next year? I will continue to explore designs that are more localized, pursuing carbon reduction and sustainable friendly designs, and will also attempt to incorporate more AI collaboration to improve efficiency and completeness.
