China Guardian Hong Kong's "20th Century and Contemporary Asian Art" spring auction will showcase a diverse range of contemporary art pieces, including significant works from Japan's avant-garde queen Yayoi Kusama, Mr., Yoshitomo Nara, and renowned artists from the Philippines.

  • Yayoi Kusama's autobiographical masterpiece "Flower" makes its debut at the auction, containing strong personal metaphors. In the work, a magenta dahlia stands against a yellow background with a black net representing "the universe and earth," with flower petals radiating energy in all directions. Although Kusama has created many floral artworks, the dahlia has only appeared twice, showcasing the rarity of this piece.
  • The work combines her three classic motifs: "infinity nets," "polka dots," and "flowers," with the floral structure spreading across up to four layers of space, utilizing five colors, which is extremely rare. The piece adopts a diagonal structure, enhancing the sense of depth in the space, with petals undulating like waves, displaying the rhythm of natural growth.
  • The flower language of the dahlia symbolizes "gorgeous elegance, wealth, and generosity," with red representing "happy love," and purple symbolizing "courage." This dahlia, nourished by love and courage, undoubtedly reflects Kusama's best wishes for life.

▲Yoshitomo Nara's "Untitled", colored pencil on paper, 42 × 29.5 cm, made in 2007, estimated price: HKD 1,600,000–2,200,000.

  • Yoshitomo Nara's teacup girl "Untitled" is a rare piece in the "teacup child" theme, which has only a total of 14 works to date. This piece is the second largest in size among the paper works, highlighting its rarity. The artist creates a serene atmosphere with a minimalist approach, depicting a girl wearing a blue long-sleeved shirt sitting in a UFO-like spinning teacup, as if flying in a dreamy sky.
  • The girl points forward with her right hand, seemingly indicating to the viewer that she still has distant dreams to pursue, showcasing the author's pure and profound spirit.

▲Mr.'s "The Eternal First Time", acrylic on canvas, 100×80.3 cm, made in 2007, estimated price: HKD 1,200,000–1,800,000.

  • Mr.'s work "The Eternal First Time" is an early masterpiece debuting at the auction, combining the artist's iconic beautiful girl image with exquisite landscape depiction, showcasing a captivating aesthetic. The painting depicts a girl by the river at sunrise, with a cute "mysterious creature" on her head, resembling a childhood imaginary friend, accompanying her on a new journey.
  • The protagonist has short hair and wears androgynous clothing, exuding youthful vigor, encouraging both herself and the viewers with a clenched fist. The title "The Eternal First Time" aims to guide people to reflect on every "first time" in their lives, as important moments in facing the future—whether joy, anger, sadness, or happiness.
