In response to World Tuberculosis Day, the Taitung County Health Bureau launched the "0324 Raise Your Hand to Screen for Tuberculosis and Say Goodbye" promotional campaign on March 24, encouraging the public to participate in latent tuberculosis infection screening and treatment, while emphasizing the importance of early detection. Director Sun Guoping reminded that if there are persistent cough symptoms, individuals should seek medical attention as soon as possible, and called on all tuberculosis contacts to proactively get screened to ensure their health. In addition, the "324 Project" running from March 24 to May 24 offers a limited number of screening slots; interested participants must register in advance before the deadline and present identification. In response to the initiative by the World Health Organization, March 24 is designated as World Tuberculosis Day each year to raise awareness about the prevention and treatment of tuberculosis and to help the public understand the treatment of latent tuberculosis. The Taitung County Health Bureau and the health stations of various townships held a promotional event titled "0324 Raise Hands Together to Screen for Tuberculosis and Say Goodbye" on the 24th, inviting county residents to actively participate in the screening and treatment of latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI), working together to eliminate the threat of tuberculosis to public health. The Health Bureau urges those who have been in contact with tuberculosis to actively cooperate by getting tested for latent tuberculosis infection, seeking screening early for early detection and treatment to safeguard their health.

A representative from the Health Bureau stated that tuberculosis is primarily transmitted through the air and droplets. If someone has a persistent cough lasting more than two weeks, night sweats, or weight loss, they should seek medical attention as soon as possible to ensure their health and that of their family. In addition, some infected individuals may not show symptoms, but they still harbor tuberculosis bacteria, known as "latent tuberculosis infection." Although there is no contagiousness at this stage, it may develop into active tuberculosis in the future, making active treatment of latent tuberculosis very important.

Furthermore, the Taitung County Health Bureau will conduct a two-month "324 Project - Screening and Treatment of Latent Tuberculosis Infection" from March 24 to May 24, prioritizing known contacts of tuberculosis cases for screening. If citizens believe they have been in contact or have the willingness to participate, they can also register. Participants must be at least 18 years old and provide an identification document with a photo, such as an ID card, health insurance card, or driver's license. Foreign nationals may bring their residence permit or health insurance card, aiming for early detection and treatment.

This event has limited spots, with 90 places allocated to Taitung County by the central government. Eligible residents must submit their screening applications before May 24. If the spots are filled before this date, applications will no longer be accepted. Qualified individuals can also participate in a lottery organized by the central government; details can be inquired at local health stations. Successful registrants must cooperate for blood tests for latent tuberculosis, and subsequent positive cases will be referred by health stations to the relevant medical institutions for evaluation and treatment to reduce the risk of developing tuberculosis in the future.

The Health Bureau emphasizes that the slogan "Say Goodbye," filled with hope, symbolizes our hope to bid farewell to tuberculosis.
