The Taitung County Health Bureau is collaborating with health stations in various locations to promote "0324 Raise Your Hand Together to Screen, Say Goodbye to Tuberculosis," in response to World Tuberculosis Day. From March 24 to May 24, a two-month project for screening and treating latent tuberculosis infection will be conducted, encouraging contacts of tuberculosis patients and individuals aged 18 and over to participate. The Health Bureau urges early screening and treatment to maintain personal health. Spots are limited, and eligible individuals need to register in advance and can inquire for relevant information.
Taitung County Health Bureau teams up with various township health stations to promote "0324 Raise Your Hand to Screen, Say Goodbye to Tuberculosis," in line with World Tuberculosis Day on March 24 each year. This event aims to encourage county residents to participate in screening and treatment for latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI) to collectively eliminate the threat of tuberculosis to public health. The Health Bureau calls on contacts of tuberculosis patients to proactively undergo screening and seek early detection and treatment to safeguard their health.
The Health Bureau Director pointed out that tuberculosis mainly spreads through air and droplets. If symptoms such as a persistent cough for over two weeks, night sweats, or weight loss occur, individuals should seek medical examination as soon as possible to ensure the health of themselves and their families. In addition, some infected individuals may not exhibit symptoms, but the tuberculosis bacteria still reside in their bodies, referred to as "latent tuberculosis infection." Although not infectious at this stage, there is a potential risk of developing active tuberculosis, making the active treatment of latent tuberculosis very important.
To further promote this activity, Taitung County Health Bureau will collaborate with the Ministry of Health and Welfare's Centers for Disease Control to implement a two-month "324 Project - Screening and Treatment of Latent Tuberculosis Infection" from March 24 to May 24, prioritizing individuals who are contacts of tuberculosis patients. Members of the public who believe they have been TB contacts or are willing to participate may also join. Apart from those who are TB contacts, other participants must be at least 18 years old and provide a photo ID that confirms their identity, such as a nationality document or health insurance card; foreign nationals need to possess a residence permit or health insurance card.
The Health Bureau reminds that the number of slots for this activity is limited, with the central government providing 90 slots for Taitung County. Eligible individuals must submit screening applications before May 24. If the slots are filled ahead of schedule, applications will no longer be accepted. Participants can also join a lottery event organized by the central government, and those who meet the criteria can inquire about related information at local township health stations.
After successfully registering, participants are required to cooperate with blood tests for latent tuberculosis. Subsequent positive cases will be assisted by health stations for referral to contracted medical institutions in the county for evaluation and treatment, reducing the risk of future tuberculosis outbreaks. For more activity information and inquiry times and phone numbers for each township, the public can check the Taitung County Health Bureau's official website.
