The Centers for Disease Control announced today (25th) the second case of severe complications from enterovirus resulting in death in the country this year. The male newborn from the northern region, who was less than one month old, was hospitalized due to respiratory distress. Subsequently, he exhibited symptoms such as low blood oxygen levels and bradycardia, and unfortunately passed away on March 17. Tests confirmed an infection of "Enterovirus type 11." So far, there have been a total of 3 confirmed cases of severe complications from enterovirus in the country (including 2 deaths). The public is urged to pay attention to the early signs of severe enterovirus complications in newborns and young children.

The Centers for Disease Control today announced the second case of severe complications and death from enterovirus infection this year in the country. The patient was a newborn boy from the northern region, less than one month old. The infant was hospitalized in the pediatric intensive care unit in mid-February due to difficulty breathing. By mid-March, he gradually exhibited symptoms of sepsis, including low blood oxygen, slow heart rate, hepatitis, and a drop in platelets, ultimately passing away on March 17. Tests confirmed that the cause of the severe complications was an infection with "Echovirus type 11." The Centers for Disease Control indicated that there have been a total of three confirmed cases of severe complications from enterovirus infection this year (including two deaths). All these cases were due to Echovirus type 11 infection, with two cases involving newborns less than one month old. The number of severe cases is slightly higher than the data from the same period in 2021 to 2024 (ranging from 0 to 1 case). The Centers for Disease Control urges the public to pay special attention to the warning signs of severe enterovirus in newborns and young children.
