The Nantou County Health Bureau reminds the public to stay vigilant and prevent fraud committed by fake traditional Chinese medicine clinics. Recently, unscrupulous individuals have been using the name of a certain traditional Chinese medicine practitioner in Nantou City to collect fees for medication delivery, claiming to provide online consultation services. The health bureau emphasizes that traditional Chinese medicine clinics only provide in-person consultations, and any online consultations and medication delivery are illegal. If the public encounters suspicious messages, they should immediately verify the information to avoid providing personal information or making remittances. If fraud is discovered, please report it to the police. The inquiry hotline for the Nantou County Health Bureau is (049) 2224464, and the police anti-fraud hotline is 165.
The health bureau reminds the three steps to prevent fraud. Scamming methods are constantly emerging and becoming more cunning. Recently, the Nantou County Health Bureau received a report from the Chinese Medicine Association that criminals have impersonated a physician from a certain Chinese medicine clinic in Nantou City, spreading medical knowledge online and attempting to charge the public for a claimed medication delivery service. Therefore, the health bureau and the Chinese Medicine Association particularly remind the public to be vigilant and guard against fraud.
The president of the Nantou County Chinese Medicine Association stated that clinics in this county only accept in-person consultations and do not provide online consultations or medication delivery services. Any claims of providing treatment, prescribing medication, or delivering drugs online are not within the scope of legitimate Chinese medicine clinics, and the public must be extra cautious to avoid fraud that could impact their health and rights.
According to Article 11, Paragraph 1 of the Medical Practitioners Act, physicians are prohibited from providing treatment, prescribing medication, or issuing diagnoses unless they have personally examined the patient. However, in mountainous areas, offshore islands, remote regions, or special urgent situations, the competent authority of the municipality or county (city) may designate physicians to inquire about the patient's condition and conduct examinations via communication methods and prescribe medication, which will be administered by nursing staff or midwives from health care institutions. Violators will be fined between NT$20,000 and NT$100,000.
The health bureau urges that if individuals encounter suspicious messages from impersonating medical clinics, they should immediately verify with the clinic or local health authorities, and should not casually provide personal information or remit money to prevent being scammed. If illegal activities are discovered, they should also report to the police to jointly combat fraud.
- Chinese medicine clinics only accept patients for in-person consultations and do not provide online consultations or medication delivery services.
- If in doubt, please contact the clinic or local health bureau directly to verify.
