The community director of Pocketpair, Bucky, stated in an interview at GDC 2025 that they would consider porting their game "Palworld" to Nintendo's next-gen console, Switch 2, if its performance is sufficient. Currently, the team has not received a Switch 2 development kit and cannot confirm whether the hardware meets their needs. Bucky explained that the existing Switch, due to performance limitations, cannot support the open-world "Palworld." Nonetheless, the team has optimized the game for Steam Deck and hopes to allow more players to experience it on the new console in the future. Notably, Pocketpair is currently facing a patent lawsuit with Nintendo, but earlier this year, their 2018 card game "Overdungeon" has successfully launched on Switch.
The community director of Pocketpair, the developer of "Palworld," Bucky, recently spoke to foreign media at the GDC 2025 Game Developers Conference, pointing out that if Nintendo's next-generation console, Switch 2, has powerful enough hardware capabilities, they would consider porting this popular game that already has over 32 million players worldwide to Switch 2. However, Buckley also revealed that the team has not yet obtained a development kit for Switch 2, so they cannot confirm whether the hardware specifications meet the needs of "Palworld."
Buckley explained that "Palworld" has not been able to land on the existing Nintendo Switch mainly due to hardware limitations. He stated that the open-world nature of the game requires higher hardware demands, and the original Switch's performance cannot meet these requirements. However, the Pocketpair team successfully optimized the game for Steam Deck, allowing "Palworld" to run smoothly on that handheld device. Therefore, if the hardware specifications of Switch 2 meet the standards, the team is willing to allow more players to experience "Palworld" on the handheld.
Of course, the ongoing patent infringement lawsuit between Nintendo and Pocketpair raises uncertainties about whether it would impact the possibility of "Palworld" landing on Switch 2. Interestingly, after the lawsuit became public, Pocketpair managed to successfully release a game on the Switch platform, including the card game "Overdungeon," which launched on Switch this January.
