The Mainland Affairs Council criticized this action as merely expanding political persecution and reminded the public to be aware of the safety risks when traveling to China. Regarding the residence issues of spouses from China, the Mainland Affairs Council stated that handling is conducted according to the law and that there is no so-called persecution.

Regarding the issue of residency permits for Chinese spouses being revoked, the Mainland Affairs Council emphasized that Taiwan is a democratic rule of law country, and that some recent "very few cases" have been legally processed due to violations of regulations. The individuals involved can also seek corresponding judicial relief according to the law, and there is no situation of persecuting political dissenters.
