The Taipei City Government has decided to demolish the Gongguan Roundabout and establish a dedicated left turn lane for motorcycles to reduce traffic accidents. The Gongguan Roundabout is a hotspot for traffic accidents, and the public has expressed dissatisfaction with traffic safety. Experts also support this decision, hoping to create a safer driving environment.

The Taipei City Government has decided to dismantle the Gongguan Circle and plans to retain a two-stage left turn, raising safety concerns. The mayor stated that the Transportation Bureau will be asked to redesign the plan, shifting to the establishment of a dedicated left turn lane for motorcycles to reduce accidents and disputes between vehicles and pedestrians. The planning is expected to be completed by the end of the year, with construction possibly starting as soon as next year.

A motorcyclist remarked, "There have already been two accidents at the same location within four hours." Road users angrily demanded the city government resolve the issue promptly, as the Gongguan Circle experiences heavy traffic, with buses, motorcycles, and pedestrians often contesting the same space, coupled with complex traffic signals, making it easy for accidents to occur with just a moment's inattention. Another injured rider shared, "I was unclear about the signals here while turning and mistakenly thought it was a green light, leading to a collision." The high accident rate at the scene has made this area a hotspot for incidents.

The mayor has resolved to address this chaotic situation, pointing out that many city officials have considered this issue over the past decade but have never taken action. After numerous reports, the decision has been made to dismantle the Gongguan Circle. The Transportation Bureau will carefully discuss road design and traffic flow, with a decision expected by the end of the year.

The new plan includes filling in the underground bus lane, converting it to a surface-exclusive lane, and transforming Roosevelt Road and Keelung Road sections into a multi-lane large intersection to improve driving planning.

Motorcyclists and nearby residents indicated that establishing a left turn lane will undoubtedly enhance driving safety and reduce congestion. Experts also agreed that such design could improve traffic conditions, hoping that the reorganization will provide citizens with a safer driving environment.
