The spouse of a Chinese national, known as 阿雅 (Ayah), had her residency permit revoked by the Immigration Department and left Taiwan urgently last night. The Vice Chairman of the Straits Exchange Foundation, 羅文嘉 (Lo Wen-chia), stated that the Immigration Department's requirements are legally clear, and there is support from 75 scholars, including Academia Sinica member 陳培哲 (Chen Pei-che), who criticized the populism of Lai Ching-te's administration and its suppression of freedom of speech. Interior Minister 劉世芳 (Liu Shih-fang) was reluctant to comment further, stating that she would humbly accept criticisms from all sectors. The scholars issued a joint statement warning that the Lai Ching-te government could become a threat to Taiwan's democracy and rule of law, urging the government to stop suppressing dissent and to uphold Taiwan's peace and security. After Ayah left Taiwan, public reactions were polarized.

The vice chairman of the Straits Exchange Foundation said: "If she is unwilling to be forcibly sent back, or if the other side does not accept her, then she may enter our temporary shelter, and the relevant legal provisions are also very clear." With Yaya's departure, the Minister of the Interior may be feeling relieved; he stated: "I will not respond to individual cases, and we will humbly accept criticism and guidance from all sectors."

After Yaya left Taiwan, the founder of the People's Democratic Party and secretary-general of the Left Alliance, who had rallied support for her the day before, once again cried out for her injustice. Scholars pointed out that a tide of fascism is rising globally, and Taiwan is responding to this situation. The scholars also called for the president to consider different opinions more rather than just listening to internal voices.

A total of 75 scholars, including several academics, issued a statement accusing the current government of continuously demonizing the other side, suppressing dissenting opinions with high-handed tactics, escalating social confrontation, and rapidly shrinking the space for freedom of speech in Taiwan. The statement also pointed out that the current government is the biggest threat to Taiwan’s democracy and rule of law, calling to prevent the situation of "today Ukraine, tomorrow Taiwan" from becoming a reality. After Yaya's departure, evaluations of the incident have been polarized.
