A statement was jointly issued by 75 scholars, accusing Taiwan's space for freedom of speech of being compressed and calling on the government to cease excessive actions. Presidential Office spokesperson Guo Yahui emphasized the importance of respecting freedom of speech but pointed out that rhetoric inciting aggression and hatred has violated international law and poses a challenge to Taiwan's democratic system. The scholars expressed concern over the government's restrictions on speech and the declaration of military courts, urging the government to reconsider these measures.

75 scholars have issued a joint statement pointing out that Taiwan's freedom of speech space is being compressed, calling on the government to immediately change the current policies. The Presidential Office spokesperson stated that they respect and defend freedom of speech for various differing opinions. However, promoting aggression and acts of hatred and violence against Taiwan has violated international conventions, posing a challenge to Taiwan's democratic system and also violating the bottom line of democracy and freedom of speech.

This statement was co-signed by academicians from the Academia Sinica and several scholars, including Chen Peizhe, Huang Debei, and Feng Jianz san. They specifically expressed concern over President Lai Ching-te's decision to restore military courts and restrict cross-strait exchanges, indicating that Taiwan's freedom of speech is rapidly shrinking and that ideological censorship from the martial law period has reemerged. The scholars called for the Democratic Progressive Party government to immediately cease such actions.

The Presidential Office emphasized that Taiwan is a democratic society, and freedom and democracy are the cornerstones of the nation, while accusations of inciting aggression are made to protect Taiwan's democratic values.
