Labor Minister Hong Shen-han announced four measures to respond to the United States' policy of imposing a 32% tariff on Taiwan, with an expected budget of NT$15 billion, and policies will be adjusted according to market conditions. The Ministry of Labor will establish a 24-hour consultation hotline at 0800-777888 to provide support for small and medium-sized enterprises and workers. The measures include proactively contacting affected companies, providing wage subsidies and on-the-job training subsidies for workers, encouraging businesses to hire unemployed workers, and offering pre-employment training and employment incentives for graduates.
The Minister of Labor, 洪申翰, stated that in response to the "reciprocal tariffs" policy announced by the U.S. President, the Executive Yuan has implemented relevant response strategies. The Ministry of Labor will launch four measures, with a total budget expected to reach 15 billion NTD, and will dynamically adjust policies and funding based on the impact of tariffs on the labor market.
洪申翰 pointed out that the Ministry of Labor has set up a 24-hour consultation hotline at 0800-777888, which is expected to be activated on April 8, to provide consultation services for workers, especially for small and medium enterprises in the traditional and export sectors. At the press conference, 洪申翰 proposed four support measures, including:
- Proactive Visits and Care: The Ministry of Labor will actively contact affected businesses and labor unions to understand workforce changes and service needs and provide information related to stabilizing employment for businesses.
- Reducing Dismissal Risks: Providing wage subsidies to potentially impacted workers, encouraging businesses to conduct on-the-job training, supporting workers with reduced hours, and providing interest subsidies for startup loans to ease financial pressures.
- Reemployment Plans: Encouraging businesses to hire unemployed workers by providing employment incentives and collaborating with non-profit organizations to create job opportunities, while also expanding short-term job opportunities provided by government agencies.
- Youth Workplace Integration: Providing training and stipends for graduating youth to adapt to the workplace, helping them successfully enter the job market.
These measures aim to strengthen support for affected workers and stabilize the domestic economic situation.
