"A-Rod" Rodriguez has officially taken over the NBA's Minnesota Timberwolves after four years of ownership disputes, finally completing the transaction. Although approval from the NBA Board of Governors is required, there are high expectations for him from the public. According to reports, Rodriguez and his partner Marc Lore reached a purchase agreement in 2021 for approximately $1.5 billion. Although the transaction faced legal challenges, they ultimately secured an additional 90 days to complete the acquisition. At this stage, Rodriguez needs to retain basketball operations chief Tim Connelly and repair the relationship with legendary player Garnett.

"A-Rod" Rodriguez has officially become the new owner of the NBA's Minnesota Timberwolves. After four years of ownership disputes, this situation has finally made a clear progression. Although still needing approval from the NBA board, expectations for the new owner remain high. According to reports, Rodriguez faces two significant tasks.

As early as 2021, Rodriguez and Marc Lore's camp reached a purchase agreement with current owner Glen Taylor for around $1.5 billion, structured in three phases of payment. Over time, Glen Taylor announced in March 2024 that he was canceling the deal, claiming the other party violated the contract and failed to meet the payment deadline, resulting in both parties entering court arbitration. Ultimately, the arbitration court made a 2-1 ruling, allowing the "A-Rod" camp an additional 90 days to continue the acquisition. Although Glen Taylor has the right to appeal, he decided not to pursue it further. Now the NBA has officially begun the ownership transfer process, which includes the need for a vote from the league's board; according to the rules, at least 23 out of the 30 teams must cast votes in favor for the deal to officially take effect.

According to reports, the two major tasks for "A-Rod" upon taking over are firstly to retain basketball operations head Tim Connelly and discuss contract extension; secondly, to improve the relationship with legendary player Kevin Garnett, as there have been significant tensions between the two sides and former owner Glen Taylor in the past, resulting in a long-standing poor relationship.
