Summer He-hee's travel experience also reminded him that traveling is not just about sightseeing, but rather a process of self-exploration.
▲Xia Hexi traveled to Egypt at the beginning of the year, opening up new horizons.
Artist Xia Hexi has shown outstanding performance in hosting in recent years and has received nominations for the Golden Bell Awards. In addition to hosting, he has attracted many fans' love and following through sharing his daily life involving skincare and travel. At the beginning of this year, he arranged a trip to Egypt to relive different travel experiences. He stated, "Every year during the New Year, we travel to different countries. This year I wanted to break out of my comfort zone, so I chose Egypt, a country I must visit in my lifetime. After this journey, I began to learn to listen to my own voice."
▲He chose to travel to Egypt because he wanted to challenge himself.
Xia Hexi's seven-day and six-night trip to Egypt experienced quite a few setbacks before departure. He stated, "This time I went on a group tour, and I booked the tickets early. The return trip required a stopover in Dubai, but it took two weeks to process the visa. Looking back at the local accommodations, I actually have little impression because we returned to the hotel at eight or nine in the evening and had to get up at three or four the next morning, hardly having time to enjoy the hotel stay." Due to the climate and culture in Egypt being drastically different from Taiwan, he believes that preparation before the trip is very important. He mentioned, "When going to Egypt, you have to bring your own sheets and pillowcases for hygiene. However, every day not only did we have to make the bed, but because of the strong sandstorm, every time the door opened, sand would come in, so when we returned to the hotel, we often found ourselves making the bed and cleaning up sand."
▲This trip made him feel regretful because he did not do enough homework.
Xia Hexi admitted that he felt very regretful about not being adequately prepared for this trip to Egypt. "My biggest mistake was not doing my homework in advance!" He was responsible for finding local travel agencies during trip planning but only reviewed the itinerary provided by the agency before setting off; he helplessly stated, "As soon as the plane landed, I regretted it. Everything was completely different from what I imagined." He confessed that this journey was full of anger and guilt for him, as he was frustrated for not having sufficient research, and also felt bad for his friends because the daily itinerary left everyone exhausted.
▲Taking the sleeper train in Egypt is a common experience for many tourists.
Xia Hexi shared that this trip to Egypt was filled with twists and turns, especially regarding the experience on the sleeper train. He said, "It was my first time on a sleeper train, and it lasted eight hours. Before getting on the train, we let the tour guide take us to a nearby hotel to shower." He humorously mentioned, "The train's restroom left a deep impression on me because there was only one restroom in the carriage, and everyone had to compete to use it. By the time it was my turn, the train was moving, and using the restroom meant doing so directly over the tracks, which was quite shocking."
▲The exquisite sculptures in Egypt amazed him.
Despite being shocked by the local culture in Egypt, Xia Hexi believes that there are many worthwhile attractions to visit. He mentioned, "The Temple of Abu Simbel is a world heritage site excavated from the water, and the intricate sculptures of the past are truly unimaginable." He added, "It takes three and a half hours to drive from Cairo; if you consider the distance, I suggest taking a flight, which would be faster."
▲Walking around the pyramids gave him a deeper experience.
As one of the Seven Wonders of Egypt, the pyramids and the Sphinx deeply impressed Xia Hexi. He mentioned, "When I saw the pyramids and the Sphinx, I felt a shock in my heart, but because we chose to walk around the pyramids, halfway through, I began to regret it, as we had to walk back to get on the bus." He emotionally stated, "I am very grateful to choose to travel to Egypt at this age; if I were older, it might have felt more difficult."
▲This trip gave him profound memories of Egyptian culture.
During his travel in Egypt, food also became an unmissable part, and Xia Hexi shared, "On the first day, we were looking forward to trying Egyptian cuisine, but because I don't eat beef and there is no pork available, our meals for the first few days were grilled chicken with rice every day." He laughed, "Although we later chose a Chinese restaurant, since it was made by Egyptians, the taste was obviously different, and the happiest meal turned out to be eating at the local McDonald's."
▲He emphasized that the locals are not as scary as imagined.
Xia Hexi's interactions with the locals also left a deep impression. He stated, "Usually when you are in a foreign place, everyone tends to be particularly cautious with their belongings. When we got on the train, some locals proactively wanted to help us with our luggage; at first, we refused, but later realized they were just being kind because there were too many people getting on the train." He emotionally said, "This trip to Egypt has indeed broadened my horizons and taught me that I should not just travel based on others' recommendations, but to calm down and truly listen to my heart, so I can enjoy the fun of travel."
