In Tainan's Guohua Street, there are two charming beverage shops—My 老爹紅茶屋 and 楊哥楊桃湯, both highly recommended delicious choices by locals. My 老爹紅茶屋 has been established for 70 years and uses high-quality Ten Ren tea leaves to provide traditional flavor tea drinks. Meanwhile, 楊哥楊桃湯 is famous for its handmade starfruit soup, which has a sweet taste and rich traditional handmade flavor. There are also many snacks around Guohua Street, allowing visitors to stroll and taste at the same time. Why not enjoy a signature red tea or starfruit soup to experience the local flavor of Tainan?

The Guohua Street in Tainan offers a dazzling array of snacks, making it an ideal spot for food seekers. Here, in addition to tasting various snacks, you can also extend your exploration to the Tainan Grand Market and the Shakariba Market. In a recent exploration, we visited two unique beverage shops: "My老爹紅茶屋" and "楊哥楊桃湯," both of which have decades of history.

My老爹紅茶屋, originally known as "老爹紅茶," has a history that dates back 70 years. It initially sold black tea at the Shui Xian Gong market and has been run by three generations. Today, it still insists on using Ten Ren tea leaves and does not sell overnight tea to preserve the purest old-fashioned flavor. On the other hand, 楊哥楊桃湯 is famous for its handmade starfruit soup, which is sweet and thirst-quenching, fully showcasing the flavor of traditional handcrafting.

Regarding transportation, if you are driving, it is recommended to park at the Hai'an Road underground parking lot or the Chenggong Road parking lot, and then walk about 5-10 minutes to reach the Yongle Market. Since the road on Guohua Street is relatively narrow, it's advisable to walk after parking. If taking the bus, you can choose city buses 2, 5, or 88 to the "Guohua Hai'an Intersection" stop, and it is about a 3-minute walk from there.

We initially learned about My老爹紅茶屋 through a friend's recommendation, who said their black tea is often delivered to Taoyuan, making it tempting to try. After several tastings, we found that both the black tea and grass jelly tea have a consistently refreshing and thirst-quenching taste.

The black tea and grass jelly tea at My老爹紅茶屋 are unforgettable; the black tea is rich and smooth, while the grass jelly adds a refreshing taste that is not overly sweet.

Here, drinks are available in both cup and bottle options. Although bottled drinks are relatively cost-effective, since we were sampling snacks on Guohua Street at the time, we opted for the cup option; had we needed to take them back home or to a hotel, we would have chosen bottled drinks instead.

The price for black tea and grass jelly tea is 40 NT dollars, made with Ten Ren tea leaves, without added artificial flavors. Upon tasting, one can savor the natural sweetness and fragrance of the tea leaves; the traditional black tea and grass jelly tea complement each other perfectly, especially suited for enjoying in the hot summer.

楊哥楊桃湯 is a beverage that my father-in-law always chooses whenever he visits Guohua Street; he must take a cup to enjoy on his way out. Although the shop has a simple appearance and only offers takeout, besides the cool beverages, the hot starfruit soup served during winter is a warm choice, available only in cold weather.

楊哥楊桃湯 offers drinks in both cup and bottle formats, and of course, we chose the larger cup size, with the addition of fruit slices for only an extra 10 NT dollars.

The pineapple soup with fruit slices (large cup) is priced at 50 NT dollars. This soup is carefully handmade by the shop, where the pineapple, after a long cooking time, releases a rich fruity aroma and a slight sweet and sour flavor, paired with the soaked fruit slices, showcasing the old-fashioned flavor.

The flavor of this pineapple soup is quite different from the canned starfruit juice commonly found on the market. The handmade fruit soup has a rich texture, and the fruit slices absorb the broth, leaving a slightly salty taste. This unique flavor makes it irresistible to keep taking another sip.

I was really hoping to explore the coffee shop on the second floor of the Yongle Market, but unfortunately, it happened to be closed for the day, which was a bit disappointing. It seems there are many interesting shops there, and I look forward to revisiting next time; it will surely be a delightful experience!

The snack culture in Tainan is famous throughout Taiwan, and these two beverage shops—My老爹紅茶屋 and 楊哥楊桃湯—not only carry the memories of Tainan residents but also inherit the traditional delicious taste.
