The "Yijie Nine-Layered Tower & Scallion Pancake" in Dajia, located near Zhenlan Temple, is extremely popular and often sells out within four hours, especially during the Mazu pilgrimage period in 2025. Food lovers should not miss it! There are only two options for the scallion pancake: one with an egg for NT$50 and one with double eggs for NT$65. The double egg version is highly recommended for a better texture. The scallions used are a local specialty, not pungent, with a crispy outer layer and a soft, chewy interior, making it very tasty when paired with the sauce. The food truck is well-organized, and it's recommended to call ahead for reservations to avoid waiting in line. Opening hours are Monday to Friday from 13:30 to 19:00, and weekends from 12:30 to 19:00, located at Minsheng Road, Dajia District, Taichung.
At the intersection of Shuntian Road and Minsheng Road in Dajia, Taichung, near the Taiwan Bank, there is a legendary food truck delicacy called "宜吉九層塔粉蔥餅" (Yiji Basil Scallion Pancake). This food truck attracts a large number of diners as soon as it appears, often selling out within just four hours. Friends arriving late should plan to come earlier next time! Remember to come here to taste it during the upcoming 2025 Mazu Pilgrimage.
This blue small truck stall is a must-try food recommended by locals, highly praised by young foodie Hans. He mentioned that locals know they can call ahead to make reservations, saving time in line. Although it’s a small food truck, there are six staff members each performing their duties, including rolling dough, stuffing scallions, frying pancakes, adding sauce, and sprinkling pepper, comparable to a factory assembly line.
The cleanliness of this food truck is impressive; the owner has high standards for cleanliness and tidiness. The surface where the pancakes are made is almost free of grease, and any sauce that may spill is immediately wiped clean. It is truly one of the cleanest food trucks I have ever seen.
This food truck only sells basil scallion pancakes, which are priced in two categories: the regular version with egg for NT$50 and the double egg version for NT$65. Most customers find the regular version delicious enough, while I personally prefer the double egg version, which is exceptionally satisfying—the combination of egg aroma and scallion pancake is perfect! If you visit, you might as well choose the luxurious double egg version; you won't be disappointed.
This scallion pancake is different from the usual scallion pancakes; its biggest feature is the use of the local specialty “粉蔥” (fencong), which is rich in moisture and flavor, completely non-spicy, paired with fresh basil. The aroma bursts pleasantly while chewing. The outer skin is fried just right, while keeping the inside soft and chewy, and brushing it with soy sauce makes it even more delicious!
Don't forget to ask the staff responsible for brushing sauce to add some spicy sauce! The spicy sauce combined with the salty and sweet soy sauce adds more depth to the flavor of the scallion pancake!
This food truck sells out within almost four hours, and the crowds keep coming. It is recommended for everyone to arrive early during the 2025 Mazu Pilgrimage; otherwise, you'll only be able to watch others enjoy it from afar, drooling silently. Interestingly, whether fresh out of the oven or cooled down, the scallion pancakes are equally delicious; the aroma of the basil becomes even more pronounced after cooling. Every time I arrive, I embark on a delicious journey without waiting for it to cool down.
