Takahashi Market is located in Shimonoseki City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, Japan. It only takes 5 minutes by ferry from Mojiko in Kitakyushu. This is a great place to taste fresh fugu sashimi and sushi. The market is close to other attractions in Shimonoseki, making it suitable for a full day itinerary. You can take the Yamaguchi Railway from Shimonoseki Station to Takahashi Station, and it takes about a 3-minute walk to reach the market. There are several seafood stalls in the market, particularly famous for fugu dishes. Don’t miss the opportunity to take various cute photos of fugu and enjoy dining with a view of the sea. The business hours of Takahashi Market are from 5 AM to 3 PM on weekdays, and from 8 AM to 3 PM on Sundays and holidays.
If you come to Mojiko in Kitakyushu City, I recommend taking the boat which takes only 5 minutes to reach Kanmon Market, where you can taste fresh fugu sashimi and sushi. My friends even generously bought a whole box of sea urchin to enjoy directly with chopsticks, which was impressive. Additionally, you can visit the major attractions in Shimonoseki, Yamaguchi Prefecture, making it possible to have a full day itinerary just around this area.
From Shimonoseki Station, take the Yame Transportation Bus and you can reach Kanmon Market in about 3 minutes.

At the Mojiko boarding area, you can purchase tickets for the boats to Shimonoseki Kanmon Port and Genryu Island. It's very convenient to board here.
Currently, only the flights to Shimonoseki (Kanmon) are operating.
Ticket purchasing is available at manual ticket machines and automatic ticket machines.
Fares: Adults 400 yen, Children 200 yen.
Inside the shipyard, historical photos of Mojiko are also on display.
It is recommended to arrive 10 minutes early to wait.
The boat is of moderate size, divided into upper and lower decks. If you want to feel the sea breeze, you can sit on the upper deck.
The round trip between Mojiko and Shimonoseki takes only about 5 minutes, with a fast speed and spacious seating.
Kanmon Market is very close to the port.
On sunny days, the sea view is very beautiful, and you can reach your destination in just a few minutes.
The fugu dishes offered at Kanmon Market are very famous, and there are several photo spots along the way, so remember to take plenty of pictures.
Although Kanmon Market is relatively quiet on weekdays, it becomes very lively from Friday to Sunday and on holidays, especially the sushi street.
Local seafood such as fugu, sea bream, and yellowtail in Shimonoseki must be tasted, and the market is filled with various fresh catches from fishermen.
Since I usually visit on weekdays, I didn’t capture the spectacular crowd.
The sushi street on Fridays is smaller in scale, but if you are interested, the presentation of fugu sashimi here is quite artistic.
After browsing the market, you can enjoy your favorite sushi in the dining area on the first or second floor, or choose to take it outdoors, dining with the beautiful sea view of the Kanmon Straits and the Kanmon Bridge.
Although I don't have specific recommended sushi shops because the differences in sushi within the market are not significant, each shop's sashimi is very fresh and reasonably priced, so enjoy yourself here!
If you don’t encounter the sushi street on Fridays, Saturdays, or holidays, there is a famous conveyor belt sushi restaurant on the second floor that is also worth trying.
