We first discovered Shuangxi Tsai Bing because we were looking for a restroom on our way back and stumbled upon the Shuangxi Market while searching for a convenience store. Seeing the crowd ahead, we followed the flow and found out it was selling dessert ice products, so we decided to stay longer and enjoy the delicious offerings. This place is also a favorite resting spot for many cyclists.
Shuangxi Tsai Bing has decades of history, with the owner carefully brewing sweet syrup and hand-making粉粿, crispy balls, paired with delicate milk ice that has become a must-try dessert for many visitors to Shuangxi. Although the shop's decor is simple, its delicious offerings have attracted a large base of loyal customers, making it a hidden gem in the Shuangxi area that should not be missed.
MENU
Shuangxi Tsai Bing also sells a series of handmade tea, and in summer, they offer a shaved ice series that is said to be quite generous in portion, so you have more choices in the summer, but the waiting time may also be longer.
The snowflake ice allows for the selection of 1-2 toppings, with the option to add more for an extra charge. It's recommended to try their signature peanut and red bean snowflake ice or peanut and milk snowflake ice, both of which look really delicious, and the toppings mixed with豆花 (tofu pudding) are also quite substantial.
When ordering, you'll receive a playing card as a number tag, which you use to claim your ice dessert. It’s very interesting!
You can refer to the toppings chosen by other customers, but I think the best option is the peanut and red bean snowflake ice chosen by the locals, which are generously topped with various ingredients, making them look even more delicious.
This peanut and milk ice is topped with peanuts and pearls, also looking very appetizing. However, when visiting here, I still recommend going for the peanut and red bean combination as it is even more delicious.
The milk snowflake ice is priced at 60 TWD, with a texture as smooth as finely grated snow, exuding a rich milky aroma. Unlike regular shaved ice, the snowflake ice melts in your mouth instantly, allowing you to experience a full fragrance of milk.
Although the toppings initially seem ordinary, the店家的 (store's)粉粿 (glutinous rice cake) and crispy balls have a chewy outer layer, with a slightly chewy interior. The portion size is quite generous, making it very suitable for two people to share one bowl, generously drizzled with condensed milk—not overly sweet, perfectly complementing the milky aroma of the snowflake ice.
Although the environment at Shuangxi Tsai Bing is simple, the shop is always bustling with crowds, especially in summer when you must be patient while waiting in line. The delicate texture of the milk snowflake ice makes a lasting impression, rich in milky flavor yet not too cloying, all at an economical price. If you’re traveling to Shuangxi, it’s worth taking a moment in the market to enjoy this bowl of handmade traditional ice dessert, refreshing and delicious!
