The Water Festival in Thailand is the country's most popular traditional celebration, equally important as the Chinese Lunar New Year. Due to my interest in the Water Festival, I have listed it as a must-visit itinerary on my journey around the world. Although I have been to Thailand more than 30 times, this is my first time participating in the Water Festival, and I experienced extraordinary excitement and fun. Despite the hot weather, the atmosphere was lively, with everyone splashing water on each other with water guns. The joy was immense, and I highly recommend friends who haven't attended yet to include the Water Festival in their plans to enjoy this feast. I plan to travel freely to Bangkok, Phuket, and Koh Samui for a total of 28 days between April and May 2024, including the Water Festival period, with a budget of about 20,000 NT dollars covering all expenses. Moreover, the flight tickets I purchased are quite affordable. The dates of the Water Festival usually fall between April 13 and 15 each year, and in 2025, it will be extended to April 12 to 16. The main activities are concentrated in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Ayutthaya, Pattaya, and Phuket. When participating in the Water Festival, it is recommended to bring essential items such as water guns, goggles, sandals, and waterproof phone cases, and to pay attention to clothing and transportation issues. The main water battle locations in Bangkok are Khao San Road, Silom Road, and Siam Square, each with varying levels of thrill, suitable for all types of participants. If you want to experience this joyful and exciting event, the Water Festival is definitely worth a try!

Therefore, I included the "Thai Water Festival" in my must-visit itinerary for my around-the-world trip. Although the weather was hot, and my body was drenched with water, joining many others in a water gun fight and splashing each other completely awakened everyone's childlike spirit. With live music adding to the atmosphere, it was a very joyful experience. If you have not participated in the Water Festival yet, I highly recommend taking the opportunity to visit Thailand during the event period to personally experience this thrilling and fun activity. To fully enjoy the Water Festival, I plan to travel freely to Bangkok, Phuket, and Koh Samui in Thailand from April to May 2024 (including the Water Festival period), for a total of 28 days, with an estimated cost of around NT$20,000 (including food, accommodation, transportation, entertainment, etc.). This marks progress toward my dream of traveling around the world and achieving it successfully! Among them, the round-trip tickets I purchased include a Water Festival itinerary in Bangkok and a cherry blossom season itinerary in Tokyo, Japan, totaling four segments of tickets (with Starlux Airlines), costing about NT$17,000 including tax, which is 40% to 50% cheaper compared to traditional airlines. Additionally, this 28-day free trip to Thailand includes not only Bangkok but also free travel to Phuket and Koh Samui.

• Dates, Times, and Locations for the Thai Water Festival 2025: The Thai Water Festival (Songkran Festival) is usually held from April 13 to 15 each year. Although there might be slight adjustments due to special circumstances in different locations, these three days are generally the main focus. In 2025, since April 12 is a special holiday, the Water Festival is expected to extend to 5 days, from April 12 (Saturday) to April 16 (Wednesday). *Please adjust the travel dates for the Water Festival according to the latest news from Thailand.
• Locations for the Thai Water Festival 2025: Major cities include Bangkok, Chiang Mai (especially at Tha Pae Gate and the North Gate), Ayutthaya (Ayutthaya Historical Park), Pattaya (Pattaya Beach Road), and Phuket.

Recommended Items to Bring During the Thai Water Festival

• Items to Bring:
  • Purchase a water gun, preferably a larger model for a stronger water jet; you can buy one at the venue on the day of the event or compare prices at supermarkets and convenience stores.
  • Goggles or glasses to avoid discomfort from dirty water splashing into your eyes.
  • Sandals or flip-flops (or waterproof shoes).
  • A waterproof phone case, ideally a sealed transparent type that can be tied onto your body.
  • A waterproof bag to store a dry set of clothing to change into after getting wet, to avoid catching a cold while taking the subway or bus.
  • A lightweight raincoat to prevent getting wet again after changing clothes.
  • Sunblock lotion to apply beforehand to avoid sunburn.
  • A sun hat to reduce water splashes into your eyes.
• Water Festival Taboos: Avoid wearing excessively revealing clothing (like bikinis or being completely naked), do not use high-pressure water guns, and water guns can only contain clean water. Do not splash elderly people, monks, sick individuals, young children, or police officers on duty.
• Other Precautions:
  • Traffic congestion is expected in urban areas during the event, so it’s advisable to take the BTS, MRT, or water transport.
  • Wear light and quick-drying clothing; valuable items can be left at the hotel or kept in a waterproof bag.
  • The weather is hot; make sure to apply sunblock lotion to avoid sunburn.
  • Choose accommodation near water battle sites for convenience in changing clothes; it’s recommended not to take the subway back to the hotel after getting wet.
  • Keep a cheerful attitude when splashed with water, and笑 and pick up the water gun to retaliate.
  • Filling your water gun with ice water can make it even cooler.

The main celebration locations for the Thai Water Festival are in Bangkok, and the introduction of activity venues and transportation is as follows:

• Location One of Bangkok Water Festival Activities: Siam Area (more suitable for those who prefer a milder experience), mainly concentrated along the road from Siam Square to the World Trade Center, with music performances and interactive game experiences, the intensity of the water battle is relatively mild.
• Location Two of Bangkok Water Festival Activities: Silom Area (suitable for thrill-seekers), Silom Road is closed to traffic during the event to create a large water battle arena, with music performances along the way, and the atmosphere is lively.
• Location Three of Bangkok Water Festival Activities: Khao San Road (suitable for those seeking excitement), this is the most intense water splashing spot, with a crazy and fun activity atmosphere.
