In Beitun District, Taichung, a citizen discovered that their vehicle had received a parking ticket after dining in a designated parking lot. The reason for the ticket was that the rear of the vehicle was on the sidewalk. Although the operator had posted a notice as a reminder, participants believed that the parking space design was too short, making it inevitable that normal parking would encroach on the sidewalk, and thus felt the penalty was unreasonable. The police stated that according to regulations, if any part of the vehicle is on the sidewalk, it is considered a violation, and the fine ranges from 600 to 1200 NT dollars. After the city's investigation, it was confirmed that the parking lot was not registered according to the law, and penalties would be imposed accordingly.

In Taichung City, a recent incident occurred where a vehicle parked in a parking lot received a parking ticket. A resident dined at a restaurant in Beitun, parked their vehicle in a designated parking area, and was surprised to find a ticket upon returning. When inquiring with the officer issuing the ticket, the officer stated that the rear of the vehicle was already overhanging onto the sidewalk. However, the resident felt that this punishment was unreasonable. Upon visiting the site, it was found that the length of the parking space adjacent to the sidewalk was insufficient, meaning that normal parking would inevitably overhang the sidewalk. Although the operator posted a notice to advise users, other residents still believed that the operator should bear responsibility under these circumstances. According to an investigation by the Taichung City Government, the parking lot was not registered according to law and would be fined accordingly.

Upon arriving at this parking lot in Beitun, the side against the wall was filled with vehicles, while the side near the sidewalk had no cars parked, because anyone parking on that side might receive a ticket. One resident immediately inquired with the on-site police officer after realizing they had violated the rules, and the officer pointed out that the rear wheels and rear end of their vehicle were indeed on the sidewalk. According to photos provided by the police, the rear and wheels of the vehicle were indeed on the sidewalk. The police stated that as long as the vehicle body or bumper overhangs onto the sidewalk, it would be considered a violation and subject to a fine of NT$600 to NT$1,200.

However, the resident still believed that this punishment was unreasonable, as one parking experience made it clear that the length of the parking space marked by the operator was inadequate; to prevent the front of the vehicle from exceeding the line, the rear would inevitably have to overhang onto the sidewalk. Other residents expressed similar views and questioned whether it was even possible to avoid overhanging onto the sidewalk. Despite the parking lot operator posting a notice at the site indicating that exceeding the sidewalk would result in a fine, some residents still felt that the operator should bear corresponding responsibility. The penalized vehicle owner ultimately contested whether the portion of the vehicle that overhung was part of the sidewalk, and the police indicated they would ask the relevant municipal authorities to clarify the matter.
