Political Center / Comprehensive Report Today (the 5th) marks the 50th anniversary of Chiang Kai-shek's death. The 519 Action Coalition, focusing on transitional justice, and the Koo Kuan-min Foundation initiated the action titled "Taiwan Does Not Need a Dictator Memorial Hall," gathering nearly a hundred political victims and their families at the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall. They demanded the government remove symbols of authoritarianism, advance the transformation of the Memorial Hall, and stated that if not addressed immediately, they would reiterate their demands annually.
Participants held up banners and chanted slogans, as nearly a hundred relatives of the victims of the February 28 Incident, victims of the White Terror, and their families dressed in black, walked from the main entrance of the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall to Liberty Square, calling on the government to swiftly remove the authoritarian symbol of the "Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall." Despite the drizzling weather, it could not extinguish the anger in their hearts. Zhang Zezhou, a 95-year-old political victim and retired professor from National Taiwan University, spoke on behalf of the victims, reflecting on the 43-year period of White Terror, still unable to hide his outrage.

Zhang Zezhou stated: "He massacred many innocent people under the guise of confidentiality and anti-espionage. The souls of the deceased in heaven see how the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall is still venerated by many, while many are unaware of the atrocities that once occurred in Taiwan." On the 50th anniversary of Chiang Kai-shek's death, the 519 Action Coalition and the Koo Kuan-min Foundation reiterated the demand that "Taiwan really does not need a Dictator Memorial Hall" and proposed three recommendations, emphasizing that if the government does not take action, they will return to the same location each year to reiterate their demands.
Wang Mei-hsiu, chair of the Koo Kuan-min Foundation, pointed out: "First, please choose a time within this year to close the main hall at the back; second, please address the transformation issue of the Chiang Kai-shek Temple as soon as possible; third, please speed up the removal of symbols of authoritarianism." The event began with a performance depicting the torture of political prisoners. Although history may fade, it will not be forgotten; families desire the government to face and address the memorial hall of the dictator, allowing transitional justice to be realized.
