Korean student Shen from Fu Jen Catholic University shared his terrifying experience of being randomly attacked with a knife in Ximen Ding on "Threads" today. After attending a friend's birthday party and preparing to take a bus back to his dormitory, he was suddenly stabbed in the back by a stranger, resulting in serious injuries. Shen said that although he is now out of danger and the perpetrator has been arrested by the police, he feels disappointed with the security situation in Taiwan. He emphasized that this incident made him rethink Taiwan's safety and expressed concern for others who might face similar dangers. He thanked the police for their assistance and urged everyone to pay attention to their own safety.
A South Korean college student with the surname Shen from Fu Jen Catholic University expressed on social media today that he encountered a random stabbing incident in Ximen District, where he was stabbed in the side and bled profusely. Although he is currently not seriously injured and the police have arrested the suspect, the shocking experience has left him unsettled. He lamented, "I still cannot believe that such a random stabbing incident happened in Ximen, a place where almost all Koreans come when they visit Taiwan. I always thought Taiwan was a safe country, but after this incident, I have started to rethink that."
Shen mentioned on social media that he went to Ximen District today to celebrate a friend's birthday. After enjoying beef noodles, he was preparing to take the bus back to his dorm when he was suddenly stabbed by a stranger with a knife as he passed by the McDonald's in Ximen. He emphasized, "There was absolutely no conflict between us; he stabbed me from behind with a curved knife." Shen stated that he immediately asked the assailant what he was doing, but the assailant quickly fled in a vehicle. He immediately reported the incident to the police and was taken to the hospital, thanking the police for their swift action and indicating that he is currently resting.
Recalling the incident, he still feels shocked, "During the ten months I've lived here, I always thought Taiwan was a country with good public safety, but after this incident, I started to rethink that." He did not want to let this affect other self-employed individuals and was concerned that other Koreans or Taiwanese might face similar dangers, so he decided to document this experience.
Shen reflected on the incident, stating that he was dining with friends and left the restaurant around six o'clock in the evening to head towards the bus station. He mentioned, "When I reached the crosswalk near the McDonald's in Ximen, I suddenly saw a man following me from behind, holding a tool; I thought it was a toy knife. My friend saw it and ran away, and when I looked back again, I was injured." He noted that the assailant calmly walked toward a vehicle parked next to the McDonald's to escape, and since the assailant had a knife, he could not chase after him and could only report to the police immediately, encountering officers in front of McDonald's, who then accompanied him to the hospital.
According to Shen's account, he bled for about two hours due to the deep wound until he completed the stitching and returned to his dorm to recuperate around nine o'clock. He expressed disappointment regarding public safety in Taiwan but was grateful for the enthusiastic help from the police. To date, he has not received any calls from the police and is not well-informed about the status of the suspect, but he believes the police are still investigating.
According to initial investigations by the police, the student with the surname Shen brushed past a 39-year-old man surnamed Zhou in the early morning hours. Zhou, under the influence of alcohol, mistakenly believed that Shen was glaring at him and in a fit of anger, swung a knife at Shen’s back, resulting in the student being injured and sent to the hospital. The police subsequently arrested Zhou and seized the weapon used in the crime. Zhou's blood alcohol level was 0.95, and he has been charged with attempted murder and public endangerment. Zhou has a history of multiple criminal records.
Fu Jen Catholic University stated that the campus safety center and the international student center have not yet received any relevant reports and speculated that the student may be from the Mandarin Language Center. The school will provide full support in terms of medical and legal assistance.
