The Eastern Theater Command of the People's Liberation Army announced on April 1 a sudden joint exercise around the Taiwan Strait, and on April 2 conducted naval and air drills under the name "Strait Thunder-2025A." Our Ministry of National Defense disclosed the movements and related intelligence of the Indian mainland's Shandong aircraft carrier, indicating that its formation consists of 8 vessels. Japan's Ministry of Defense provided updates on the status of the PLA vessels on April 1 and April 3, revealing some details of the Shandong's exercises. The Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force also dispatched destroyers to monitor them.

The Eastern Theater Command of the People's Liberation Army announced without warning on the 1st that it would conduct joint drills around the Taiwan Strait, and on the 2nd, it disclosed that the maritime and air exercises were code-named "Strait Thunder-2025A." Our Ministry of National Defense also released relevant information about the drills, including the movement of the Chinese Shandong aircraft carrier in the waters southeast of Taiwan, indicating that the carrier group includes eight vessels, as well as monitoring footage from the National Army.

According to data released by the Ministry of Defense on the 1st, at 10 AM that day, it confirmed that the Chinese Navy's Shandong aircraft carrier and the Type 055 destroyer Xianyang (No. 108), the Type 052D destroyer Zhanjiang (No. 165), and the Type 054A frigate Hengshui (No. 572) were sailing approximately 440 kilometers south of Yonaguni Island, and the Shandong was also conducting takeoff and landing operations for J-15 carrier-based fighters.

According to the latest data on the 3rd, it shows that at 8 PM on the 1st, People's Liberation Army vessels were confirmed to be approximately 360 kilometers south of Yonaguni Island, including the Shandong aircraft carrier, along with the Type 055 destroyer Yan'an (No. 106), the Zhanjiang destroyer, the Type 054A frigate Yuncheng (No. 571), and the Type 901 supply ship Chagan Lake (No. 905).

The Ministry of Defense further pointed out that at 8 PM on the 2nd, it confirmed that five vessels, including the Shandong aircraft carrier, were sailing approximately 330 kilometers south of Yonaguni Island. During this period, the Shandong aircraft carrier completed about 40 takeoff and landing operations for carrier-based aircraft and 30 for carrier-based helicopters, totaling 70 operations. As of the 3rd, it was confirmed that the Shandong aircraft carrier and escort vessels had proceeded toward the South China Sea.

In response to the movements of the People's Liberation Army Navy's Shandong aircraft carrier group, the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force has dispatched the Akebono-class destroyer Akebono (No. 111), stationed in Yokosuka and belonging to the 6th Escort Group, for surveillance and monitoring.
