The Eastern Theater Command of the People's Liberation Army announced on April 1 that joint exercises would be conducted near the Taiwan Strait, and on the 2nd, it disclosed that the naval and air exercise was code-named "Strait Thunder-2025A." Reports from our Ministry of National Defense indicate that the Shandong aircraft carrier and other vessels from mainland China have been active in the southeastern waters of Taiwan, providing surveillance footage for our military's maritime monitoring. The Japanese Ministry of Defense also released information on the relevant vessels' movements, showing that the Shandong has conducted multiple carrier-based flight operations and dispatched destroyers for monitoring.

The People's Liberation Army Eastern Theater Command suddenly announced joint exercises around the Taiwan Strait on the 1st, and on the 2nd, the naval and air exercises were named "Strait Thunder-2025A." Our Ministry of National Defense immediately released relevant information, showing the movements of the mainland's Shandong aircraft carrier in the waters southeast of Taiwan. The carrier group includes 8 ships and publicly displayed the military's maritime surveillance footage. At the same time, the Japanese Ministry of Defense's Joint Staff Office also announced the latest movements of the People's Liberation Army Navy vessels on April 1 and 3, further revealing some details of the Shandong carrier's exercises.

According to the data released by the Ministry of Defense on the 1st, at 10 AM that morning, it was confirmed that the mainland Navy's Shandong aircraft carrier and the Type 055 destroyer Xianyang (108), Type 052D destroyer Zhanjiang (165), and Type 054A frigate Hengshui (572) were sailing about 440 kilometers south of Yonaguni Island, and the Shandong was conducting takeoff and landing operations for J-15 carrier-based fighters. Additionally, according to the data from the 3rd, it was confirmed that at 8 PM on the 1st, the PLA vessels sailing about 360 kilometers south of Yonaguni Island included not only the Shandong aircraft carrier but also the Type 055 destroyer Yan'an (106), Zhanjiang destroyer, Type 054A frigate Yunyang (571), and Type 901 supply ship Chagan Lake (905).

The Ministry of Defense further pointed out that at 8 PM on the 2nd, it confirmed that a group of 5 vessels, including the Shandong aircraft carrier, were sailing about 330 kilometers south of Yonaguni Island. During this time, the Shandong carrier conducted about 40 takeoff and landing operations for carrier-based fighters and 30 for carrier-based helicopters, totaling 70 operations. On the 3rd, it was confirmed that the Shandong aircraft carrier and escort vessels were heading towards the South China Sea.

In response to the movements of the People's Liberation Army Navy's Shandong carrier group, the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force sent the Akebono-class destroyer Matsukaze (111) stationed in Yokosuka to carry out vigilance and surveillance.
