The 9-day and 8-night pilgrimage event at Dajia Jenn Lann Temple in Taichung officially kicked off, attracting over 600,000 devotees to witness the occasion. Kuomintang Legislative Yuan party caucus leader Fu Kun-chi and his wife Hsu Chen-wei stood front and center to welcome Dajia Mama. During a media interview, Fu Kun-chi mentioned that Taiwan needs the blessings of the goddess and called for peace across the Taiwan Strait, stating that rising tariffs in the United States could affect Taiwan's industries. The Democratic Progressive Party criticized him for leveraging the opportunity for political maneuvering, hoping to divert the pressure of his recall, and they recalled the awkward situation they encountered last year during the pilgrimage for the goddess of Baishatun.
The pilgrimage event of Dajia Jenn Lann Temple in Taichung officially kicked off, lasting for 9 days and 8 nights, attracting over 600,000 devotees to participate in the ceremony. Kuomintang Legislative Yuan caucus leader Fu Kun-chi and his wife stood in an important position to welcome Mazu. Fu Kun-chi expressed his hopes that the maternal spirit would bless Taiwan amid the current tariff war. He was described as a character without good intentions in response to the doubts from the green camp.
As the fireworks and firecrackers sounded, the palanquin of Mazu officially set off at midnight, marking the beginning of the pilgrimage event. Observing the line-up in the C position, in addition to the chairman of the Jenn Lann Temple, Yen Ching-piao, Fu Kun-chi and his wife Hsu Chen-wei were also present. Fu Kun-chi mentioned that he had just been interviewed by the media before departure, urging both sides of the Taiwan Strait to maintain peace and hoping that Taiwan would not become the next Ukraine. He mentioned that the U.S. tariffs increased to 32% and criticized the current government for pushing the people toward war.
Fu Kun-chi emphasized that what Taiwan needs most at present is unity, and earnestly asked for the maternal spirit to bless Taiwan to quickly form economic and trade alliances with countries around the world, especially those outside the United States.
Regarding Fu Kun-chi's actions, legislator Shen Bo-yang pointed out that in addition to praying to deities, Fu Kun-chi might have other considerations. He criticized Fu Kun-chi for using external circumstances to conduct internal political operations and for trying to divert attention from the wave of recalls. The Democratic Progressive Party accused Fu Kun-chi of being eager to seek deities and pray due to the rising momentum for recalls. Reflecting on last year's pilgrimage of Baishatun Mazu, where Fu Kun-chi was ignored while welcoming by the tour bus, he felt embarrassed, and this year chose to take a leading role at the starting point to avoid a repeat of that experience.
Taichung city councilors expressed disdain for Fu Kun-chi's behavior, indicating that his pretense of faith is not genuine. Fu Kun-chi praying to deities among the 600,000 devotees may have a true purpose that only he knows.
