Today (5th) marks the 50th anniversary of Chiang Kai-shek's passing. The 519 Action Alliance, dedicated to promoting transitional justice, and the Koo Kuan-min Foundation, organized an action titled "Taiwan Does Not Need a Dictator's Memorial Hall." They, along with nearly a hundred political victims and their families, went to the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall, urging the government to swiftly eliminate symbols of authoritarianism, accelerate the transformation of the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall, and stated that if these issues are not addressed, they will reaffirm this demand every year.

Participants held up banners and shouted slogans in unison. Nearly a hundred family members of the victims of the 228 Incident, victims of the White Terror, and their relatives, dressed in black, walked from the gate of the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall to Freedom Square, calling on the government to quickly remove the authoritarian symbol of the "Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall." Although there was light rain, it did not dampen the anger in their hearts. Zhang Zezhou, a 95-year-old political victim and retired professor from National Taiwan University, spoke on behalf of the group, recalling the 43-year period of White Terror, his anger still unmistakable.

Zhang Zezhou stated: "He massacred many innocents under the pretext of secrecy and preventing espionage. Their souls in heaven still feel pain because there is still a Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall that continues to be revered by many, and many do not know that Taiwan once had a demonic murderer." On the 50th anniversary of Chiang Kai-shek's death, the 519 Action Alliance and the Koo Kuan-min Foundation put forward three suggestions and called on the government to address the issue, or they would return to the same location each year to reaffirm their demands.

Wang Mei-hsiu, chairperson of the Koo Kuan-min Foundation, mentioned: "First, please select a date this year to close the rear hall; second, please expedite the transformation of the Chiang Kai-shek Temple; third, please accelerate the removal of symbols of authoritarianism." The gathering began with a situational drama, simulating the experiences of political prisoners. Although history may fade over time, it will not be forgotten. The families hope the government can face and resolve the issue of the dictator's memorial hall, allowing transitional justice to be truly realized.
