A South Korean university student from Fu Jen Catholic University shared on the social media platform "Threads" about the random stabbing incident he encountered today in Ximen. He suffered serious stab wounds and bled profusely; although he is currently not in life-threatening danger, this nightmarish experience has left him struggling to cope. "I still can't believe that such an incident could happen in Ximen, a place almost all Koreans visiting Taiwan will go to. I always thought Taiwan was a safe country, but this incident has made me reconsider that."
This university student stated that he came to Ximen today to celebrate a friend's birthday, and after enjoying beef noodles, he was preparing to return to his dormitory. However, as he passed by a McDonald's, "a stranger suddenly stabbed me with a knife. We had no prior conflict; it was the first time I saw that person, and he actually stabbed me in the back with a curved knife from behind." Mr. Shin mentioned that he immediately questioned the assailant's actions, but the attacker nonchalantly ran away. He then reported the incident and was taken to the hospital. "The perpetrator has now been arrested, and I am resting," but reflecting on today's events still leaves him in shock.
Mr. Shin pointed out that this incident has left him disappointed about the safety in Taiwan, yet he is still grateful for the police's enthusiastic assistance. He stated that he kept bleeding after being injured, and it was only after the wound was stitched that he was able to return to his dorm for recovery. He worries that other Koreans and even Taiwanese people might encounter similar dangers, so he hopes to write this article to warn others.
According to the police's preliminary investigation, the incident occurred around 6 AM today when Mr. Shin brushed past a drunk suspect, causing a misunderstanding that led to the incident. The police quickly intercepted the fleeing suspect and seized the weapon, with the suspect's blood alcohol content reaching 0.95.
The school has expressed its willingness to provide medical and legal assistance and hopes the student can rest easily.
