The Da Jia Mazu pilgrimage event is lively and underway, but a video circulating online shows a man apparently clashing with staff and attacking temple personnel with a motorcycle helmet.
After receiving the report, the police acted quickly, arresting the assailant and transferring him for legal action according to the Social Order Maintenance Act.
According to police information, a citizen uploaded a video of the "Da Jia Mazu Fighting Cup" on a messaging app, which recorded an incident during Mazu's procession at the Dajia Zhenlan Temple. In the evening, a conflict occurred between members of the Zhenlan Temple and a group wearing white shirts, leading to dissatisfaction from a man in the group, who then took off a safety helmet from a motorcycle by the roadside to launch an attack.
When the police arrived at the scene, the involved parties had already left. The police gathered information and notified the victimized members of the Zhenlan Temple to further understand the situation. The man stated that due to the large crowd, a conflict may have occurred while clearing the way for Mazu's palanquin, resulting in the attack; however, he indicated that he would not file a criminal complaint.
After reviewing the surveillance footage, the police confirmed the identities of those involved and notified them to come in for an explanation. The entire case was handled based on Article 87 of the Social Order Maintenance Act regarding "inflicting violence upon others."
The Dajia Police Station stated that the Da Jia Mazu pilgrimage is an annual religious event that attracts many devotees. They urged all participants to follow principles of respect and rationality, and to understand that pushing or waiting might occur in large crowds. Everyone should work together to create a safe and harmonious environment for the pilgrimage. If any incidents of mob fighting or disturbances occur, the police will impose severe penalties in accordance with the law.
