After receiving reports, the police swiftly arrested the assailant, a man with the surname Huang, and transferred him for prosecution in accordance with the Social Order Maintenance Act.
The police information indicated that a citizen uploaded a video titled "Dajia Mazu Fighting Cup" on the messaging software Telegram, showing the Mazu palanquin from the Dajia Zhenlan Temple being paraded. During the parade, a pushing incident occurred between members of the Zhenlan Temple and members of an unidentified group wearing white shirts, which provoked an unknown man from that group to randomly pick up a motorcycle helmet from the roadside and strike the Zhenlan Temple members.
After receiving the report, the police immediately activated a rapid response unit to the scene, but the suspect had already fled after the incident. After understanding the situation, the police notified the assaulted member of the Zhenlan Temple, a man with the surname Huang, to assist in the investigation. The man with the surname Huang indicated that due to the large crowds on the day of the Dajia Mazu procession, members of the Zhenlan Temple clashed with those from the white-shirt group while clearing the way for the Mazu palanquin, which led to the attack by that group; however, the man with the surname Huang was unwilling to file any criminal charges.
After reviewing surveillance footage, the Dajia Police identified the suspect as the man with the surname Huang and notified him to come in for an explanation. Ultimately, based on Article 87 of the Social Order Maintenance Act regarding "inflicting violence on others," measures were taken.
The Dajia Police remind that the Mazu procession and incense pilgrimage event is a major annual religious event attracting a large number of devotees. All participants should maintain a respectful and rational attitude. Due to the large crowds during the procession, pushing and waiting may occur; it is hoped that the public can understand and be tolerant, working together to create a safe and harmonious pilgrimage environment.
