A Korean student from Fu Jen Catholic University recently revealed on the social media platform "Threads" that he was randomly attacked with a knife in Ximending, suffering serious injuries to his back. Although his condition is currently stable and the police have arrested the suspect, the horrifying experience has left him feeling unsettled. He expressed, "I still can't believe that such a random attack could happen in Ximending, a popular tourist spot in Taiwan. I always thought Taiwan was a safe place, but this incident has made me rethink that."
He mentioned that the incident occurred while he was on his way back to school by bus after celebrating a friend's birthday. As he passed the McDonald's in Ximending, he was suddenly stabbed in the back by a stranger, with no prior conflict between them. The attacker, armed with a curved knife, ambushed him from behind, and after sustaining injuries, he immediately called the police and was sent to the hospital. The suspect has since been arrested, and he is currently recovering from his injuries.
While recalling the incident, Student Shen stated that he was having dinner with friends and was walking towards the bus station around evening time. When he noticed a man behind him holding a suspicious object, he initially thought it was a toy. However, when he turned back again, he was already stabbed. The attacker behaved oddly and calmly got into a vehicle to flee, which prevented him from chasing after. He immediately notified the police and went to the hospital for treatment.
He revealed that the wound was deep and continued to bleed for two hours, and it wasn't until the evening that he received stitches. Despite feeling disappointed by the incident, he also expressed gratitude for the police's assistance and concern. He stated that he has not received any follow-up contact from the police regarding the suspect but believes that the police are still actively investigating the case.
According to the police investigation, Student Shen brushed past a 39-year-old man in the early morning, and that man, angry due to suspected glares while intoxicated, returned to his vehicle to retrieve a knife for the attack, resulting in Student Shen's injuries. The police quickly arrested the man thereafter and found the weapon on him; a breathalyzer test indicated he was over the legal limit for intoxication. He has been sent to the prosecutor's office on charges of attempted murder and public endangerment.
The school stated that they have not yet received any relevant reports and speculated that the student may be a member of the Mandarin Language Center. They will provide full medical and legal assistance and hope the student can rest assured while recuperating.
