The Taitung County Government hosted the "65th Science Exhibition Award Ceremony and Science Carnival" for two consecutive days on the 28th and 29th at the County Gymnasium. Six projects representing Taitung County participated in the national competition, and 90 fun science game booths were set up for children and adults to engage in challenges and redeem prizes. The county magistrate expressed a desire to cultivate children's interest in science through competitions and games, welcoming interested members of the public and teachers to join.
This event was opened by the Beinan Elementary School Children's Band, welcoming guests with melodious music. The competition was fierce, with 41 projects from 6 junior high schools and 20 elementary schools participating, and a re-evaluation conducted on March 14 at Beinan Elementary School. After evaluation by 16 experts, Donghai Elementary School, Sanmin Elementary School, Donghai Junior High School, and Baosang Junior High School received group awards. Additionally, 6 outstanding projects will represent Taitung County at the national science exhibition in July.
90 interesting science challenge games were simultaneously set up at the venue, with collaboration from multiple central agencies and schools, including the National Science and Technology Museum and the National Space Center. The activities covered various fields including physics, chemistry, biology, and earth sciences. Indoor activities featured "Magnet Penetration Coil" from Fengrong Elementary School and "Liquid Nitrogen Low-Temperature Experiment" from Fengtian Junior High School, while outdoor offerings included the "Ocean Mobile Food Truck" from the National Museum of Marine Biology and Aquarium and the "Low Carbon Mobile Cinema" from the National Taiwan Science Education Center, inviting teachers, students, and community members to explore the rich and exciting world of science through hands-on interactions.
The county magistrate stated that the county government is committed to promoting science education, hoping to provide diverse and interesting activities that allow Taitung’s children to "learn by doing" and enhance their scientific literacy. This year, the county government collaborated with various sectors, including the "Nanhui Science Train," inviting 500 students from 11 schools in Taitung to engage in scientific exploration; during the winter break, it partnered with the Kaohsiung Normal University Science Education Center to hold a science camp for the first time, establishing hands-on and experiential learning rooted in Taitung's science education.
The county magistrate also encouraged award-winning students to persevere and continue to improve in scientific research, hoping for good results in the national science exhibition. In addition, this year’s "Outstanding Guiding Teacher Award" was given to three teachers in recognition of their contributions to science education. The county government will continue to promote science education, creating a learning environment filled with creativity and development potential, allowing more students to open up endless scientific possibilities through hands-on activities and exploration.
