In Ontario, Canada, a school bus driver has sparked significant controversy by wearing a pink Lolita-style uniform while transporting students. A video of the incident quickly spread on social media, raising questions about the appropriateness of his outfit and behavior. The bus also displayed the name ‘Lolita Line,’ which carries strong implications of pedophilia in Western contexts, shocking and angering many parents concerned about the implications.

Footage shows the driver in a short skirt, knee-high socks, and a bow-tied costume interacting with parents outside the bus, which led to multiple adults questioning whether it was appropriate for him to dress that way while picking up children. One parent angrily asked, “Is this how you come to pick up kids?” to which the driver calmly replied, “Yeah.” When asked about why it was called ‘Lolita Line,’ he did not provide an explanation and drove away instead.

According to reports, the person who recorded the video later issued a warning online, stating: “Keep your kids safe! Just look up what Lolita means to understand! This disguises pedophilic behavior as acceptance!” It’s understood that the term ‘Lolita’ originates from the Russian-American author Vladimir Nabokov’s 1955 novel, which tells the story of a 12-year-old girl being abducted and sexually assaulted by an adult man. Although the term has developed a lavish retro fashion style in Japanese subculture, it retains a clear association with pedophilia in Western countries.

Notably, infamous sex offender Jeffrey Epstein named his private jet the ‘Lolita Express,’ which brings further attention to this troubling connotation.

The York Catholic District School Board (YCDSB) released a statement regarding the incident, indicating that upon the video's circulation, the educational authority immediately contacted the bus operating company and confirmed that the driver would no longer be providing transportation services. The board stressed that it has required the operator to ensure that such situations do not occur at its affiliated schools in the future.

Moreover, the statement pointed out that all school bus drivers in Ontario must undergo a Vulnerable Sector Check conducted by the police before assuming their duties, and receive complete training to ensure the safety of children. This decision underscores the educational board's commitment to safeguarding student welfare.
