A 73-year-old American traveler recently unknowingly brought luggage containing a firearm into Japan, successfully passing through airport security in both the United States and Japan. It wasn't until the next day, when he was preparing to board a cruise ship, that he revealed to the staff that he was carrying a firearm. The police subsequently arrested him and found the discarded gun and ammunition. This incident has triggered an investigation into lapses in airport security. Authorities stated that, due to the gun being properly packaged, no further action was taken during the inspection.

Recently, a security lapse occurred at an airport in Japan. A 73-year-old American traveler brought luggage containing a firearm, unexpectedly passing through airport security in both the United States and Japan, successfully entering the country. It was only the next day, when this traveler was about to board a cruise, that he confessed to the cruise staff about carrying a firearm.

Currently, this tourist has been arrested by Japanese police. According to his explanation, the police found the firearm and bullets that he had discarded. The Osaka customs, responsible for the security check of this tourist's entry, stated that the case is under investigation and therefore could not comment.

Reports indicate that the incident occurred on March 22 of this year. The 73-year-old American traveler departed from Daniel K. Inouye International Airport in Honolulu, Hawaii, and successfully passed the security check upon entering Kansai International Airport in Japan. However, he only discovered that he had "accidentally" brought the self-defense firearm to Japan when he was organizing his luggage upon arriving at the hotel.

When the traveler was at Kobe Port on the 23rd to board the cruise, he proactively informed the cruise staff about carrying a firearm. He expressed concern that being found with both a handgun and bullets would worsen his situation, so he chose to disclose this information only at the time of boarding. However, police indicated that due to a language barrier with the hotel staff, he was worried about misunderstandings and delayed revealing this information until then.

After preliminary investigations, Japanese police believe that the handgun passed through customs checks at both Hawaii and Kansai airports inside the suitcase. Daniel K. Inouye International Airport stated that even if a traveler's destination is a country where possession of firearms is prohibited, they do not take any measures at departure if the firearm is properly packaged when passing through customs. Kansai International Airport's customs also mentioned that they cannot comment as the case is still under investigation.
