U.S. President Trump recently announced a high tariff of 32% on Taiwan. Keelung Mayor Hsieh Kuo-Liang stated that he will hold an industrial seminar next week with Legislator Lin Pei-Hsiang to gather feedback from manufacturers and strengthen support for local and overseas businesses. Regarding the impact of the tariffs, Hsieh Kuo-Liang urged the central government to actively formulate a response plan, emphasizing that the city government will integrate resources to maintain industrial stability and pay attention to the impact of price fluctuations on people's livelihoods. He plans to establish a platform for manufacturers to propose specific policy suggestions and conduct demand surveys on industries facing risks in order to formulate corresponding policies.

The mayor of Keelung City stated on the 5th that he will hold a joint industry forum with legislators next week to listen to the opinions of manufacturers and strengthen support for local and overseas businesses.

Regarding the impact of the tariffs, the mayor of Keelung pointed out on social media that the central government should actively develop response measures and promptly communicate regarding international trade negotiations, industry chain configuration, and stabilizing the stock market. The city government will assess the challenges that Keelung industries may face, such as order relocation, rising costs, and tariff barriers, and will also consider the impact of price fluctuations on the daily lives of residents.

Keelung City has two major industrial zones and multiple industry partners. The city government will do its utmost to maintain industrial stability and sustainable development, assisting local industries in overcoming challenges in three ways:

• Establishing a communication and coordination platform, inviting representatives from the Dahu Lun and Liudu industrial zones as well as legislators, planning to hold an "Industry Joint Forum" next week to gather opinions from the industry, propose specific policy suggestions, and integrate central and local resources for rapid response and industrial stabilization.
• Conducting real-time assessments of industry risks, categorizing and surveying demand for affected export-oriented industries such as information and communication, electronics, and manufacturing, which will serve as important data for future policy development.
• Strengthening support for local and overseas manufacturers, especially those already operating in places like Vietnam and Thailand. The city government will cooperate with central departments and legislators to monitor the actual conditions of corporate operations and labor rights, promptly reflect the situation, and collectively formulate countermeasures.

The mayor emphasized that the city government will continue to monitor international situations, closely collaborate with legislators, and do everything possible to safeguard the steady development of Keelung's industries, ensuring the stability of residents' lives. Legislators also echoed, "We must prepare in advance and respond to changes in international situations; industries cannot wait, and they cannot afford to wait."
