He recently announced a 25% tariff on U.S. imported cars that do not comply with trade agreements and expressed strong dissatisfaction with U.S. President Trump's tariff policy, viewing it as a threat to Canadian sovereignty. Carney pointed out that in the face of this trade war, Canada will win like in a sporting competition. Canada will also make opposing Trump's policies a major issue in the upcoming elections.

The Canadian Prime Minister emphasized that Canada will not actively seek confrontation, but if provoked, "Canadians are always ready to fight back." Recently, the tariffs pushed by the U.S. President made Canada one of the first countries to retaliate. According to reports, Trump’s tariff policy against Canada and his call to include Canada as the 51st state of the U.S. has sparked discontent among Canadians. With the election coming up on April 28, the topic of opposing Trump has become a major focus of the election. At a rally in Ontario, the Prime Minister pointed out that the current crisis stems from Trump’s unjustifiable tariff policies and threats to Canadian sovereignty. When the audience expressed dissatisfaction with Trump, the Prime Minister noted that he shares similar sentiments when speaking with Trump and revealed that he explicitly told Trump over the phone: "We will reject any attempts to undermine Canada."

He reiterated that Canada does not wish to confront the U.S., but will still be prepared for provocation. In this trade war, Canada, along with the U.S., Mexico, and China, is among the first to be affected by tariffs, which, in addition to car tariffs, include tariffs on steel, aluminum, and other products.
