U.S. President Trump recently announced a new tariff policy, imposing tariffs of up to 32% on certain products from Taiwan. Former Taoyuan City Councilor Wang Haoyu stated that this move will severely impact Taiwan's textile industry, potentially leading to a flood of unsold products from China into the Taiwanese market, further squeezing the survival space of local businesses. He pointed out that the 50% tariff on small package exports to China by the U.S. will affect platforms like Alibaba. Additionally, Executive Yuan Premier Su Tseng-chang announced that the government will introduce a support plan of 88 billion NTD to assist affected industries and small and medium-sized enterprises in coping with the challenges.

The President of the United States recently announced the latest tariff policy, which affects global trade, with tariffs on certain products from Taiwan reaching as high as 32%. In response to this policy, a former Taoyuan city council member stated that this action is akin to issuing a "death sentence" for Taiwan's textile industry. He expressed on social media that the high 50% tariffs imposed by the U.S. on small packages exported from China have made it difficult for Chinese textile products to be sold in the U.S.; these unsold products may turn to the Taiwanese market, causing severe shock to the local textile industry. He warned that if the Taiwan market becomes flooded with low-priced Chinese products, it will further squeeze the survival space of local operators and could trigger a more severe industrial crisis.

Additionally, he pointed out that the new tariff policy will directly impact China’s cross-border e-commerce industry with the U.S., including several well-known platforms. Due to the high tariffs, these operators find it difficult to sell their products and must significantly clear inventory to avoid losses. In this situation, a large amount of textiles from China, such as clothing, socks, and towels, could flood the Taiwanese market. Meanwhile, if China's e-commerce platforms further offer promotions such as "free shipping to Taiwan," it would make the survival environment for local textiles even more challenging. He emphasized that such developments essentially amount to a "death sentence" for Taiwan's textile industry.

Recently, the Executive Yuan held a press conference on the "Response to U.S. Tariffs: Our Export Supply Chain Support Plan," where the Executive Yuan Minister announced that the government will promote nine key areas with twenty specific measures to assist affected industries and the community in facing challenges. The total budget for this plan reaches 88 billion NTD, with the industrial sector receiving 70 billion NTD in support, and agriculture receiving 18 billion NTD in subsidies. He stated that these twenty measures will cover various types of support, including providing financing and loan incentives, additional subsidies, tax reductions, etc. Furthermore, the government will assist businesses in enhancing their export capabilities, expanding international markets, and strengthening the global competitiveness of the industry. For small and medium-sized enterprises and traditional industries, the government will focus on them and develop corresponding support plans to mitigate the impact of the tariffs.
