The president expressed gratitude for the contributions of the athletes and coaches and assured that existing athletic scholarships will continue to be awarded until graduation. Under the impact of financial stress, the California College of the Arts located in downtown San Francisco recently announced that it will fully stop all collegiate sports programs after the current academic year, affecting 13 men's and women's teams. This decision has not only attracted widespread attention within the sports community but also highlights the operational and financial challenges faced by higher education post-pandemic.

According to a statement released by the school, the decision to discontinue sports programs was made after “months of careful consideration.” In addition to financial factors, changes in student attendance patterns have also been a key reason. In recent years, the proportion of remote and hybrid learning has gradually increased, leading to a decreased actual participation of students in campus activities, making the operation of sports programs increasingly difficult.

Since 2012, the California College of the Arts has established several sports teams affiliated with the second tier of the NCAA, including men's teams in basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, and track and field, and women's teams in basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, softball, tennis, track and field, and volleyball.
