The Highway Administration predicts that tomorrow (the last day of the Qingming holiday) the northbound traffic on National Freeway 5 will significantly increase, leading to congestion. The estimated traffic volume for tomorrow is 111 million vehicle kilometers, which is 1.2 times more than on regular days, with the northbound traffic on National Freeway 5 reaching 64 million vehicle kilometers, an increase of 1.4 times. Congested sections include multiple locations on National Highways 1, 3, 4, 5, and 6. To alleviate the traffic flow, the administration will implement several control measures from noon to evening and recommends that road users depart early to avoid peak traffic.
The Highway Administration forecasts that there will be a large volume of traffic heading north on National Freeway No. 5 tomorrow, leading to congestion and backups during peak hours.
As the Qingming Festival holiday approaches its end, tomorrow is the last day of the holiday. Today, the Highway Administration estimated that 13 sections of the national highways will experience easy congestion, with the highest volume of northbound traffic expected on National Freeway No. 5. The Highway Administration indicated that tomorrow's traffic volume on the national highways is expected to reach 111 million vehicle kilometers, which is 1.2 times the average of 92 million vehicle kilometers on regular weekdays, and the northbound traffic volume may reach 64 million vehicle kilometers, 1.4 times the weekday annual average.
The sections expected to be congested tomorrow include: National Freeway No. 1 northbound from Xiluo to Puyuan, Nantun to Houli, and Miaoli to Hukou; National Freeway No. 3 northbound from Zhushan to Zhongxing, Caotun to Wufeng, Longjing to Shalu, Yuanli to Houlong, Dashan to Xiangshan, and Guansi to Daxi; National Freeway No. 5 northbound from Yilan to Pinglin; National Freeway No. 4 westbound from the Tanzi system to Fengshi; National Freeway No. 6 westbound from Jiuzheng to the Wufeng system, as well as National Freeway No. 10 westbound from Renwu to Zuoying.
To alleviate the traffic flow, the Highway Administration will implement several measures on the national highways tomorrow, including: closing the entrances of National Freeway No. 1 at Huwei and Puyuan system and the northbound entrance of National Freeway No. 3 at Xibin from 12 PM to 9 PM; imposing high occupancy vehicle controls on the northbound entrances of National Freeway No. 5 at Su'ao, Luodong, Yilan, and Toucheng from 1 PM to 6 PM; as well as implementing uniform pricing, halting toll collection from 12 AM to 5 AM, opening emergency lanes, alternative routes, and ramp controls.
The Highway Administration suggests that to avoid traffic jams, drivers northbound on the western national highways should ideally depart from the southern region before 9 AM, and those from the central region are advised to leave before 12 PM. Drivers heading north on National Freeway No. 5 are also recommended to set off before 9 AM.
