A South Korean university student from Fu Jen Catholic University was randomly attacked with a knife in Ximending, Taipei, suffering serious injuries to his back. Although he is currently not in critical condition, the experience has left him feeling uneasy. He stated that he originally thought Taiwan had good public safety, but this incident has led him to rethink issues of safety. At the time of the incident, he was celebrating a birthday with friends and was stabbed by a stranger while passing by a McDonald's. The attacker has already been arrested by the police and has a history of driving under the influence. The university has stated that it will provide the necessary medical and legal assistance.
A Korean student with the surname Shen from Fu Jen Catholic University recently shared his experience of encountering a random stabbing incident in Ximen on the social media platform "Threads." He was severely injured during the incident and bled profusely. Although he is no longer in critical condition and the police have arrested a suspect, this shocking experience has left him unable to let go of his trauma. He stated, "I still cannot believe that such a random stabbing incident occurred in Ximen, a place where almost every Korean who comes to Taiwan goes. I always thought Taiwan was a country with good public safety, but this incident has forced me to reconsider this."
Shen mentioned that he was in Ximen to celebrate a friend's birthday that day. After dining at a restaurant, he was preparing to take a bus back to his dorm. As he passed by the McDonald's in Ximen, he was suddenly attacked from behind by a stranger wielding a knife. He recalled that the attacker ambushed him without any prior conflict, which left him in shock.
After calling the police and being sent to the hospital, Shen's wounds were quite deep and continued to bleed for two hours until they were stitched up. He expressed gratitude for the police's concern and assistance despite his injuries. He emphasized that he did not want the self-employed business owners in Ximen to be affected, but he was also worried that others might encounter similar dangers, which led him to write this article to share his experience.
According to the police's preliminary investigation, in the early morning of that day, Shen passed by a drunken man with the surname Zhou. The man mistakenly believed that Shen was glaring at him, which ignited his anger. He then returned to his vehicle to retrieve a knife and attacked Shen, injuring his back and necessitating medical treatment. The police later successfully intercepted Zhou's vehicle during the pursuit and seized the weapon used in the attack. It was discovered that Zhou had a blood alcohol level of 0.95, and he was subsequently charged with attempted murder and public endangerment.
Fu Jen Catholic University stated that they have not yet received any related reports and speculated that the student might be from the Mandarin Language Center. The university will provide all necessary medical and legal assistance to ensure the student can rest with peace of mind.
