A community building on Xintai Road in Zhubei City, Hsinchu County, recently experienced a carbon monoxide poisoning incident, affecting a family of five. At the time of the incident, a 78-year-old elder fell into a coma, while two other family members showed signs of dizziness and vomiting. Upon receiving the report, emergency services promptly transported the five individuals to the hospital for treatment.

The incident occurred around 5 a.m., and an ambulance quickly arrived at the scene, where a man anxiously held his child while waiting for help. Firefighters then arrived on site and confirmed that the residents had suffered carbon monoxide poisoning due to poor ventilation while using a water heater in the early morning. The water heater was placed on the balcony, blocked by a window, and was also used to dry clothes, further hindering air circulation.

After returning to the scene, the fire department used a carbon monoxide gas detector and found that the concentration of carbon monoxide in the balcony area reached as high as 256 ppm. Firefighters reminded the public that water heaters should be placed in well-ventilated areas and installed by qualified professionals to prevent such accidents from occurring.
