In Taichung City, the Criminal Investigation Unit seized a water and electrical worker with the surname Lin, who was involved in stealing electricity and tampering with electricity meters, resulting in a shortfall of NT$17.83 million for Taiwan Power Company. This electrician, who has a criminal record for electricity theft eight times, operated under the alias "Black Night" and was active in six counties and cities in central and northern Taiwan, assisting users in evading electricity fees. The police discovered that the server room equipment he operated was functioning abnormally and confiscated various tools and counterfeit items. The prosecutors have charged Mr. Lin with aggravated theft and recommended that the court impose a heavy sentence. Taiwan Power Company will also seek to recover the unpaid electricity fees from the involved users.

Taichung City's Criminal Investigation Bureau, in cooperation with Taipower Company, uncovered an electricity theft server room run by a plumber named Lin. This Lin, who has a criminal record of eight previous electricity thefts, goes by the alias "Black Night." He is suspected of tampering with electricity meters in six counties in central and northern Taiwan, charging individuals and companies to help them evade electricity fees, which resulted in Taipower Company losing NT$17.83 million in revenue. After being apprehended by Taichung City's Criminal Investigation Bureau, the Taichung District Prosecutor's Office prosecuted Mr. Lin for aggravated theft and recommended that the court impose a heavy sentence.

At the end of last year, Taipower Company discovered significant anomalies in electricity usage among businesses in the Chongde Road area of Beitun District, Taichung City, where electricity consumption suddenly dropped by more than half. Investigations revealed that the users' electricity meters had been tampered with, slowing their rotation, and the locks on the electrical boxes were found to be counterfeit. After a citywide thorough investigation, it was discovered that electrical boxes in six counties, including New Taipei City, Hsinchu City and County, Miaoli, Taichung, and Changhua, had all been damaged, leading to shortfalls in electricity fees totaling millions each month.

Prosecutors from the Taichung District Prosecutor's Office, commanding the investigation, found that 45-year-old plumber Lin had been involved in electricity theft multiple times since 2016. He frequently drove a Tesla car with fake license plates while operating in central and northern Taiwan. He assured high electricity consumers, including individuals, factories, companies, and data center operators, to "use as much electricity as possible," charging a one-time fee of NT$30,000 to NT$50,000, while charging companies and server operators NT$100,000 to NT$200,000, accumulating at least NT$2 million in profits. One operator even used his technique to reduce their electricity bill from NT$190,000 to NT$50,000 per billing cycle.

Police discovered a total of 13 damaged electrical boxes across six counties in central and northern Taiwan and seized a 24-hour operated internet data center run by Mr. Lin. They confiscated two counterfeit license plates, two small packets of ketamine, a batch of resistive materials, counterfeit "Dong" lead seals, and various tools. The prosecution has approved the detention of Mr. Lin after interrogation.

The prosecution believes that Mr. Lin possesses a professional background in the electrical industry. Even though he has already been involved in eight previous electricity theft cases, he shows no signs of remorse. Additionally, his actions have affected a wide area, causing significant harm to the country's electric resources. Therefore, they recommend a heavy sentence. Furthermore, Taipower Company will also seek to recover electricity fees from the electricity theft users based on the Electricity Act.
