The New Taipei City Government's Engineering Management Office for High Flood Level Areas has installed fourteen friendly elevators to facilitate public access to riverside parks. Since 2023, in response to safety concerns and the aging of elevators, the steel cables have been gradually updated, with the replacement of steel cables on eight elevators completed, totaling a length exceeding that of two Taipei 101 buildings. To ensure the safety of elevator use, professional contractors perform regular maintenance and inspections, and a third party is commissioned for re-inspections. The Engineering Office emphasizes that the condition of the steel cables is crucial, and any abnormalities discovered will be immediately addressed to extend the lifespan of the elevators and ensure safety. The completed elevator steel cable updates include those in Yonghe, Emerald, and Bo-Ai, among others.

In order to create a friendly waterfront environment, the New Taipei City Government's High Ground Engineering Management Office has established fourteen friendly elevators leading to the waterfront, allowing the public to access riverside parks without barriers. Since 2023, the High Ground Office has begun gradually updating the steel cables for elevators that had safety concerns and were outdated, with eight elevators' steel cables replaced so far, totaling a length of 1,360 meters, which is equivalent to more than the height of two Taipei 101 buildings.

The director of the New Taipei City High Ground Office stated that the riverside parks are located in river areas, and due to flood control needs, there are steep flood walls or embankments between the parks and the urban area, making it more difficult for the public to approach the riverside green spaces compared to neighborhood parks in urban areas. Since 2013, the government team has added fourteen friendly waterfront elevators in densely populated areas like Zhonghe, San Chong, Yonghe, Sanxia, Xinzhuang, and Banqiao, to facilitate people in need of barrier-free access to riverside parks for leisure activities.

These elevators are composed of complex electronic and mechanical components. The friendly elevators in New Taipei's riverside parks are maintained regularly by professional vendors every month, and safety inspections are also conducted annually by professional organizations. In addition, in October 2023, the High Ground Office commissioned a third-party notarization unit to carry out a re-inspection of all waterfront elevators, which not only extends the lifespan of the elevators but also ensures the safety of their use.

The High Ground Office pointed out that the elasticity, load-bearing capacity, and condition of the elevator steel cables are extremely important. If maintenance vendors find any significant deformation, breakage, rust, or twisting in the steel material of the cables, they must arrange to replace the steel cables to ensure the safe operation of the elevators. In addition to updating the steel cables during regular inspections, the High Ground Office has also proactively arranged for a comprehensive update of the steel cables for elevators that have been in use for a longer period. Currently, the steel cable updates for eight elevators, including Yonghe Security, Emerald, Boai, Sanxia Mayuan Creek, Banqiao Crescent, San Chong Tong’an, Longmen, and Changyuan, have been completed.
