A South Korean student with the surname Shen from Fu Jen Catholic University shared on social media today about his experience of being randomly attacked in Ximen, resulting in serious stab wounds to his side and excessive bleeding. Although he is currently not in critical condition and the police have arrested the suspect, this terrifying experience has left him unsettled. He stated, "I still can't believe that a random stabbing incident occurred in Ximen, a place where almost all Koreans come when visiting Taiwan. I had always thought Taiwan was a safe country, but this incident has made me rethink."

Shen mentioned on social media that he had gone to Ximen to celebrate a friend's birthday. After having beef noodles, he was preparing to take the bus back to his dorm when he was suddenly stabbed by a stranger while passing by the McDonald's in Ximen. "There was no conflict between us; it was my first time seeing him. He suddenly stabbed my back with a curved knife from behind," Shen recalled.

Right after the incident, he immediately asked the attacker what he was doing, but the assailant quickly fled. He also immediately called the police and was sent to the hospital. "The perpetrator has been arrested, and I am currently resting." Shen expressed that he was very shocked and felt disappointed that such an incident occurred in an area considered to be safe, emphasizing that he did not want to affect the self-employed workers in Ximen but was also concerned that others might encounter similar dangers.

Shen detailed the events to the media, stating that he was dining with friends and left the restaurant around six o'clock to head to the bus station. "When I reached the crosswalk near McDonald's, I suddenly noticed a man behind me holding a tool, which I thought was a toy knife. My friends saw it and ran away, and after I turned around again, I was injured."

He described the assailant's behavior as strange, "Not only did he not flee, but he calmly walked to a car parked next to McDonald's and then drove away." Due to the assailant wielding a knife, he could not pursue him and had to call the police immediately. Upon arriving at the hospital, his wound bled continuously for about two hours before being stitched up. He felt disappointed with the security situation in Taiwan but expressed gratitude for the assistance from the police, who consistently showed concern for his injuries. Although he has not yet received further notifications from the police and is unclear about the suspect's details, he believes the police will continue to investigate the case.

Weapon used in the crime

According to preliminary police understanding, this morning, the student with the surname Shen brushed past a 39-year-old man with the surname Zhou. Because Zhou was drunk and mistakenly thought Shen was glaring at him, he angrily ran back to his car to get a knife and swung it at Shen's back. After learning of the incident, police stopped Zhou's vehicle, seized the weapon used, and confirmed his blood alcohol level was 0.95 before taking legal action.

Fu Jen Catholic University stated that the campus safety center and the international student center have not received any reports and speculate that Shen may be a student from the Mandarin Language Center. They will fully provide necessary medical and legal assistance to help the student recover in peace.
