A woman with the surname Wang from Kaohsiung married a man with the surname Han in 2019. Half a year later, she remarried a man with the surname Zeng and gave birth to two daughters. Upon learning of this, Han filed a lawsuit against Wang for bigamy, seeking compensation. Ultimately, the court sentenced Wang to two months in prison for bigamy and ordered her to pay Han 160,000 yuan. Wang argued that the marriage was formed under Han's use of a false name and threats, but the court found her statements to be unconvincing.
In 2019, a woman in Kaohsiung married a Chinese man, but unfortunately, just six months after marriage, she met another Taiwanese man, and the two married the following year. However, when the original spouse learned of the situation, she chose to marry another man and have children, filing a lawsuit across the sea for bigamy and demanding compensation. The court ruled that the woman committed bigamy, sentencing her to 2 months of imprisonment, and she was also required to compensate the other party 160,000 NTD for civil infringement of spouse rights.
According to the ruling, the woman met the Chinese man in 2016, and after dating for several years, they registered their marriage in April 2019 in Qindao, China, but returned to Taiwan the day after the wedding. Six months after the marriage, she began dating a Taiwanese man and married him the following October, eventually becoming pregnant in 2021 and giving birth to two daughters. Upon discovering her situation, the other party angrily filed a lawsuit and sought compensation, stating that the woman had repeatedly asked him for money under various pretexts before marriage, and during the wedding, she received a bride price of 260,000 NTD and other valuable items. While preparing to come to Taiwan for reunion, he uncovered the fact that the woman had married someone else.
The woman argued that she was unaware of his true identity while they were dating and only realized the truth at the time of the marriage registration. Additionally, she claimed she was threatened and forced to marry. However, the judge found her claims difficult to establish, as she had applied twice for the other party to come to Taiwan after their marriage. The judge pointed out that marriage should be based on integrity and emphasized that both spouses should maintain good rights and obligations, ultimately ruling her guilty of bigamy, sentencing her to 2 months of imprisonment, and ordering her and her new partner to compensate the ex-husband 160,000 NTD.
