Xu and Liu had been dating since high school, but their relationship was marred by his excessive need for control, leading to arguments until Liu decided to break up. The judge ruled sternly, citing Xu's loss of emotional control along with his heinous actions. The case is still subject to appeal.

A 19-year-old military police officer with the surname Hsu in New Taipei City, suspected that his girlfriend, a female military police officer with the surname Liu, was cheating on him. On May 18 of last year, he strangled her to death and subsequently violated her corpse twice. During interrogation, Hsu stated that he decided to violate the corpse again because he was not satisfied with his expectations during the first violation. Investigations revealed that Hsu and Liu were classmates since high school, and after graduating, both joined the military and were assigned to the same unit, eventually developing a romantic relationship. However, Liu felt that Hsu's controlling behavior was excessive, which led to frequent arguments, and she ultimately decided to break up on May 16 of last year. Upset about the breakup and suspecting infidelity, on the night of May 17, Hsu forcibly entered Liu's residence, leading to a confrontation that resulted in her suffocation and death. Hsu not only attacked Liu’s corpse but also used her phone afterward to chat with other military peers, further violating her corpse. Liu’s family became concerned when they did not see her and eventually discovered she had been murdered, immediately reporting it to the police. The judge ultimately determined that Hsu lost emotional control and committed a heinous act that caused Liu's family to endure irreparable trauma, sentencing him to life imprisonment for murder. Additionally, he was sentenced for corpse abuse and desecration, with all charges combined resulting in a life sentence, and the case remains open for appeal.
