Today's story focuses on a young person who is willing to return to their hometown to take root. Through music, cooking, and walking explorations, they have transformed their grandmother's century-old house into a local cultural and creative base, leading a group of young people to tell the stories of Yilan's Jiaoxi, hoping to continue the warmth of the land. This child who grew up in Jiaoxi is named Huang Xuan-Yi, also known as "Fairy."
With a guitar in hand, she sings with deep affection and warmth, each song being her own creation, expressing her profound feelings for the land in her familiar mother tongue. Huang Xuan-Yi, nicknamed "Fairy," is the affectionate name her grandmother uses in Taiwanese Mandarin. Passionate about music and rural life, she believes that "connecting with history allows creativity to possess greater depth." After graduating from university, she resolutely returned to her old home in Yilan Jiaoxi.
This ancient house, nearly a century old, was built brick by brick by her grandparents. Fairy has revitalized these long-dormant spaces, filling them with old utensils, family genealogy, and fragments of rural memories, transforming the old house into a cultural and creative base where music and culture merge. As more and more young people return to their hometowns, the stories of the land continue to be passed down. Through traditional family recipes, everyone can understand the authentic flavors of their hometown, and Fairy protects Yilan’s culture and beauty in the simplest ways.
Huang Xuan-Yi stated, "I am the guardian of the land, Ah Xian." This small old house carries her childhood memories, and Fairy hopes to use music to record her longing for her grandmother and every story from Yilan, allowing more people to care about this land and continuously let her hometown shine.
