Today's character story introduces us to a young person who is willing to return home and take root. Through music, cooking, and walks, they have transformed their grandmother's century-old house into a local cultural and creative base and lead a group of young people to tell the stories of Yilan's Jiaoxi, hoping to pass on the warmth of the land. This homegrown child is Huang Hsuan-yi, whom everyone calls "Fairy."
She passionately sings with her guitar, with each song being her own creation, expressing her deep feelings for the land in her familiar mother tongue. "Fairy" is the affectionate name given to her by her grandmother in Taiwanese Mandarin. Loving music and rural life, she firmly believes that “only by connecting with history can creativity have depth.” After graduating from university, she resolutely returned to her old home in Yilan's Jiaoxi.
The historic brick house, nearly a century old, was built by her grandmother and grandfather. Fairy has revitalized these idle spaces, filling them with old utensils, family trees, and bits of rural memories, transforming the old house into a cultural and creative base where music and culture blend. As more and more young people return home, the stories of the land continue to be passed on.
Through a variety of family recipes, Fairy allows everyone to understand the authentic flavors of her hometown, using the most straightforward methods to safeguard Yilan's culture and scenery. She says, "I am the protector of the land, A-xian." The small old house carries her childhood memories, and Fairy hopes to use music to inherit and record her longing for her grandmother and every story of Yilan, encouraging more people to care about this land and continuously let her hometown shine.
