A South Korean student from Fu Jen Catholic University, Student Shen, encountered a random stabbing incident in Ximen District and was stabbed in the back. Although he is currently not seriously injured, he finds it hard to believe this horrifying experience, as he thought Taiwan was a safe place. The incident occurred when Student Shen and his friends were returning to school after celebrating a birthday and were suddenly attacked by a stranger with a knife while passing by McDonald's. He expressed his disappointment and concern about local safety and thanked the police for their assistance. The police revealed that the suspect committed the crime while intoxicated and has been dealt with according to the law.
A South Korean university student with the surname Shen from Fu Jen Catholic University revealed on social media today that he encountered a random knife attack in Ximending, resulting in severe stab wounds to his side and heavy bleeding. Although his condition is currently stable and the police have apprehended the suspect, this shocking experience has left him deeply unsettled. He stated, "I still can't believe that something like this happened in Ximending, a place where almost every Korean visiting Taiwan goes. I always thought Taiwan was a safe country, but after this incident, I am starting to rethink that."
Shen mentioned on social media that he went to Ximending to attend a birthday party for a friend today. After finishing beef noodles, he was preparing to take a bus back to campus when he was suddenly stabbed by a stranger with a knife while passing by the McDonald's in Ximending. "There was absolutely no conflict between us; it was my first time seeing that person. He suddenly attacked my back with a curved knife from behind," Shen said. When he asked the assailant what he was doing, the man quickly fled. Shen immediately called the police and sought medical treatment.
He revealed that the wound was quite deep, bleeding continuously for two hours before it was finally stitched up at night, and he returned to his dormitory to recover. Although the incident has left him feeling quite disappointed in Taiwan's public safety, he also expressed gratitude for the police's prompt assistance. He emphasized that he does not want this event to affect the small businesses in Ximending and is more concerned that other Koreans or Taiwanese might encounter similar dangers, which is why he decided to share his experience.
According to the police's preliminary investigation, early this morning, the student with the surname Shen brushed past a 39-year-old man who, under the influence of alcohol, mistakenly thought Shen was glaring at him. He then returned to his vehicle, retrieved a knife, and attacked Shen's back. The police subsequently identified the direction in which the suspect fled, successfully intercepted his vehicle, and confiscated the knife used in the crime. Breathalyzer tests revealed the man's blood alcohol content to be as high as 0.95, and he has been charged with attempted murder and public endangerment by the prosecution.
Fu Jen Catholic University also stated that the campus security center and the international student center have not yet received any related reports. The school will provide medical and legal assistance to the student and encourages him to rest assured during his recovery.
