Three students from the Department of Hospitality Management at Tainan University of Technology have boldly won three awards in the Youth Category of the Dining Service at the Southern Region Division of the National Skills Competition, laying a solid foundation for advancing to the national competition.
In the Southern Region Division of the National Skills Competition organized by the Ministry of Labor, outstanding competitors from various schools gathered to showcase their exquisite skills. The three contestants from Tainan University of Technology achieved first, third, and fourth places in the Youth Category of the Dining Service, successfully advancing to the national competition. These three contestants are Chen Guanyan and Yan Yinghan, both second-year students from the National University, and Zheng Hongjie, a freshman. Chen Guanyan and Zheng Hongjie are senior and junior from Yilan, and both participated in skills competitions during their vocational school years. In pursuit of their dreams, they crossed Taiwan to study in Tainan and continually challenged themselves.
After participating in the division competition last year and spending a year reflecting, Chen Guanyan re-entered the competition and won the championship; Zheng Hongjie, competing for the first time, won fourth place, earning a chance to enter the national competition.
The director of the Department of Hospitality Management at Tainan University stated that the cultivation of dining service skills involves not only practical skills training but also encompasses professional qualities such as English communication, international etiquette, personal image, interpersonal interaction, and creative aesthetics, enabling students to have comprehensive abilities in the hospitality industry. The three contestants began their training after the semester started, using after-school hours and the winter vacation for intensive practice, and they received full support and guidance from their teachers, allowing them to focus on the competition.
Contestant Yan Yinghan mentioned that the vocational education system has enhanced her professional abilities, and whether choosing a national or private university is no longer the main concern; what matters is finding a place to realize her dreams. She also expressed gratitude for the Ministry of Education's policies that have narrowed the tuition gap between public and private schools, allowing students to confidently choose a learning environment suitable for them.
