The National Skills Competition, organized by the Ministry of Labor, gathered outstanding contestants from multiple schools to hone their skills; the three students from this school acquired first, third, and fourth places in the Southern District competition in the Youth Group of the Food and Beverage Service category, further challenging themselves for the national competition. Among the three contestants, the first-place winner, 陳冠硯, and the third-place winner, 顏映涵, are both second-year students who transferred from a national university, while the fourth-place winner, 鄭弘杰, is a freshman. Both contestants hail from 羅東高商 in 宜蘭 and have participated in skill competitions during their vocational education. Now, they have crossed half of Taiwan to pursue their dreams, eager to surpass themselves. 陳冠硯, who had previously participated in a district competition, finally achieved the championship after a year of effort, while 鄭弘杰 secured fourth place in his first competition, earning a chance to enter the national competition.
The department head pointed out that training in food and beverage service skills focuses on practical skills implementation, which includes fruit cutting, culinary arts, beverage preparation, wine service, and table setting. It also requires comprehensive qualities such as English communication, international etiquette, poise, interpersonal interaction, and creative aesthetics. The three contestants began their training after the semester started in September last year, practicing after class for the first four months and conducting intensive training all day during the winter break. In the two weeks leading up to the competition, with the support of the faculty, they were able to fully immerse themselves in training, and after the competition, teachers and assistants provided post-competition tutoring to ensure a conducive learning environment for the students.
Contestant 顏映涵 expressed that studying within the vocational education system enhances practical competencies. Choosing to attend a public or private university is no longer the focus; the best choice is the one that enables the realization of dreams. She thanked the Ministry of Education for narrowing the tuition gap, allowing students to select a suitable learning environment for their personal growth, and expressed gratitude to the school for providing excellent training resources.
In response to the developmental trends in the hospitality industry, the school has adjusted its teaching objectives starting from the 112th academic year, emphasizing skills such as attitude, etiquette, civic literacy, and culinary arts, while focusing on the cultivation of professional competencies and international perspectives. The school has provided tremendous support for the department’s development, including establishing a dedicated internship hotel and a professional culinary classroom, as well as setting up relevant examination rooms and training classrooms. They hope to foster a globalized teaching environment through basic professional education and skill expertise development, comprehensively enhancing students' professional capabilities.
The principal emphasized that the school has a history of over 60 years, focusing on cultivating talents with innovative capabilities and international perspectives.
